Lear Family in Ancoats
- Ancoats
My great grandmother comes from Mill Street of Great Ancoats Street. Her name was Maud Lear. She was born in 1896. Her father was Joseph(b1851) and mother, Eliza (b1855). She had sisters Jessie, Lillie, Bertha, Blanch, Eliza and a young brother Albert born in 1899. Her parents ran a Common Lodging house in Mill Street. Her father also had a coalyard, stables for horse and a barge that would transport coal along the canals around Manchester. The house itself backed onto the Ashton Canal.
If anyone is descended from this line and can take me back beyond Joseph and Eliza, her parents or is descended of this line.
Maud married Frank Doran, who was from Ireland in 1912, he died in the 1st World War between 1915-17. One child survived, Winnie. She married Enoch Brooks in 1923, who had 4 children of his
own. They lived in Widnes, Cheshire and had 2 children, Elise and Eliza. Please contact me via the site if any of this links to you too. Thanks. Marie

Tarlton and Waller Families
- Ardwick
Looking for descendants of these families. Lydia Tarlton b. 1825 at Hollcombe, Derbyshire, gave birth at Ardwick to an illegitimate son Ernest James Tarlton in 1852. In 1855 she married a John Whalley b. abt. 1833 at Manchester Cathedral. The son thereafter was known as Ernest James Tarlton Whalley; whether by adoption, deed or common usage we don't know. In 1881 EJTW married Marian Waller. Her father, Frank Waller, was an optician in Ardwick. My wife is a granddaughter of EJT and Marian Whalley. Two of Marian's brothers were newspaper reporters of note. The family had significant musical achievements . . . possibly the musical genes also came from the Waller family.
Any connections? Stan
