Arthur Wells Football Referee 52-53 to 54-55 - Dover
My father was a Football referee in Dover for seasons 52-53 to 54-55. He was linesman for Dover v Tottenham Hotspur A in 1954 but I wonder if anyone has any old programmes from the same period that may contain dads name among the officials, that they could scan for me please. he kept no records of his games (or programmes) but does recall doing a game at Snowdon and also a Junior Level Cup final at Crabble, the latter probably as linesman. I am currently researching the family history and would like to add some form of list of his games he was involved in. Unlike players whose games, even from years back, appear relativly easy to ascertain no one seems to keep records of the Match Officials apointments. I have tried Kent league,Kent FA,Kent Referees Association plus the National associations mentioned. I do know that teamsheets are written out by each manager prior to the game and hande dto the REf,whose name I believe appears on it. These are in books with a duplicate sheet , which I believe is retained in the book forfuture reference. So when a book is complete what happens to it after say 10 years. Were anyr eaders activly involved with the Kent league (Div 2) in the early to mid 1950's, or can anyone suggest anywhere else I can look
