Dury family (sometimes spelt Jewry, Dewry etc)
- East Peckham
My great grandfather, George Dury, was born in East Peckham in 1840. He married Annie West (daughter of William West, brewer) in 1861 in Hadlow. He and his extended family remained in the East Peckham/Hadlow area until the turn of the century, when a number of them moved to Southborough and Tunbridge Wells. I have traced the Dury line back to 1806, where there is a record of the baptism of my g-g-grandfather's brother, George's baptism in Kingsdown (name spelt Jewry in parish register). My g-g-grandfather Richard Dury was baptised at Otford in 1809 and his father and mother are named as James and Lydia. I would love to trace them back further but have failed to date to find more about James. Richard and George married Lydia Adkins and Elizabeth Hounsom respectively in 1829 and 1832 respectively in Wateringbury, so no one has moved far. Any help would be much appreciated.
