Jane Cripps - Chatham, Kent
- Chatham
Jane Cripps was born in Kent(Chatham or Gillingham)circa 1835 and died in Colchester in 1867, aged 32. In 1858, she married Jonah Bowers, a soldier serving 21 years, and had 4 children, Edward (1859), Esther Jane (1860), William (1863) and James (1865). The married cert. showed Jane Cripps's father as William Haynes, although she was probably too young to have been married before, so William Haynes was possibly her stepfather or guardian. After Jane's death, Jonah left the army in 1868, remarried the same year, then returned to his birth town of Burslem. Staffs.
Please, can anyone help with any information concerning Jane's family before she was married to Jonah Bowers? I am unable to trace her birth or find her in any census before 1861.
Regards.
