Britannia Ironworks
- Bury
Does anybody have or know of sources of information on the Britannia Ironworks in Bury Huntingdonshire. The works stood on the site of the present Foundry Way and Brands Close. Before that the "B Paks" Vegetable packing plant was on the site. Kelly's directory lists the owners as Hughes & Kimber although there is also a reference to Armitages Foundry. I now have a little more information on the Armitage side of things. In the 1871 census an Abraham Armitage, aged 50, born in Grantham Lincs is listed. His occupation is given as Engineer comp' 8 other (5 apps). His wife Ann was also aged 50 but she was born in Bury Hunts.(could she have been a Hughes or a Kimber) they had 5 children Amoss,Mary E, Annie U, Harry H, and Abraham B.
By 1881 he is still living at Bury but his occupation is Iron Found ...chist Out Of Employ. (he could have retired as he is now aged 60). Living with him are his wife Ann and two sons Harry H aged 23 listed as "Engineers Son (Out Of Employ) (No Occ)" and Abraham B aged 23 also Engineers Son (Out Of Employ) (No Occ).

Smith Nee Bird
- Ellington Thorpe
Searching for details re. Florence BIRD of Ellington Thorpe born approx 1890. The Bird family lived in the 3 thatched farm cottages (still there) in the Thorpe - know one relative was "Uncle George" - and Florence married JOE SMITH of Huntingdonshire an itinerant farm worker who came into the village prior to the first world war. Joe Smith is mentioned on the Ellington church plaque of those who served in the 1914-1918 war. The couple moved into one of the cottages and had 4 children Charlie, Gertrude Florence, Gerald and Ron (Gerald was my father in law who died just last year). The family left the village approx. 1931/32. Another family in the village at the time was the KINGS (dad talked of Hazel King whose father served withJoe Smith). It is a very small village so anyone who has any connections with it should know something.

Dilley
- Eynesbury
I am trying to trace the family of George Dilley born Eynesbury in about 1800. George moved away and married Elizabeth from Wiltshire, with their first child, John, being born in Bristol. A John Dilley born in Eynesford in 1807 named 3 of his sons, William, John and Thomas, as did George. I feel therefore they must be related. There were several other Dilleys born in Eynesford in the 1851 census. Can anyone provide a link with George ?
