I'm looking for any information about the Newman family who were living in Abbots Ripton in 1871, having moved from Kings Ripton. Samuel and Sarah Ann Newman had a large family, including a son James (b 1855) who moved to Bradford where he married Mary Ann Seaton from Upwood, who was a relative of mine. Does anyone know what happened to James and Mary and their family? Did they ever come back to the area?

Anyone have any details of this family?? I have traced as far as Edward Tolliday b 1823/5 in Alconbury, married 1855 Huntingdon ( to Mary Ann Coleman) and died Huntingdon 1893. His father is named as Edward Tolliday on their marriage certificate. Looks like they had 11 children, most of whom were born in Alconbury. Thanks!

My husbands family had connections in Alconbury cum Weston in the 19thc. His Gt Grandmother, Louisa Elizabeth Speller was born in a pub there in 1868 (White Swan?) and her mother's family came from that area. Her mother's name was Louisa York & she was the daughter of Samuel York & Betsey Stevens. I believe Samuel's parents were Samuel York & Mary Descon/Descow/Descoix but I am not sure if they were married. Louisa York was born in 1848 & had several brothers & sisters. John Christopher - Alwalton
I am looking for my g grandfather John Christopher. He says on the census that he was born in Alwalton between 1823 and 1826 but there is no record of him there. He married Sarah Richardson in Stokesley on 25.3.1844 (he gives his father's name as John and says that he is a labourer). John and Sarah later moved to Lincoln with their children. John was a potter by trade.

Daveys in the Manor House at Alwalton - Alwalton
Looking for any information on the birth and parents of Edward Davey (c. 1823-c. 1900). Edward was born in Warmington, Northamptonshire but moved to Alwalton sometime after his marriage in 1853 to Caroline Jelley. He and his family lived in the "Manor House" and was a farmer of 200 acres. I've found him the 1861, 1871, and 1881 censuses (always in the Manor House, Alwalton), but I can't find him in the 1891 census. He died in 1900 in Peterborough. His children are Arthur (1862-pos. 1887), Agnes (1856-after 1881), May (1860-?), Mary (1869-1903), Edward (1867-1953), and Eliza (1858-pos. 1908), all born in Alwalton. Mary married George Upex. Edward married Laura G. (unknown surname) c. 1888. She died prior to 1901, and he remarried Fanny Carter in 1901. I have no definite information on the other children.

Looking for information on the Tabbitt (various spellings!) family from Hunts and Cambs in early 1700s. They seem to have moved around a bit! William Tabbit married Mary Mash in 1746 in Covington, Cambs but their son John seems to have been baptised in Bluntisham in 1761. Does anyone know anything of this family and their ancestors? Walton - Brampton
Mark Walton married Mary Peace in 1789. They had several children, all the surviving boys John, William, and Mark emmigrated to Australia in the 1840's. The girls were Sarah, Ann, Charlotte, Rachael, Mary. We know that Charlotte married in Cambridge in 1839 but have no other information on any of them.

(grandchild) specifically. Indicates connection with Spread Eagle Inn at Buckden. Any info on Inn or connections dearly appreciated. Jellies family from Thomas B. in US well documented, origins in Hunts. less so.

William Stratton born c1756 married Sarah More Oct 1787. Their daughter Sarah married William Hutchcraft at Ramsey in 1813.

Britannia Ironworks - Bury
Does anybody have or know of sources of information on the Britannia Ironworks in Bury Huntingdonshire. The works stood on the site of the present Foundry Way and Brands Close. Before that the "B Paks" Vegetable packing plant was on the site. Kelly's directory lists the owners as Hughes & Kimber although there is also a reference to Armitages Foundry. I now have a little more information on the Armitage side of things. In the 1871 census an Abraham Armitage, aged 50, born in Grantham Lincs is listed. His occupation is given as Engineer comp' 8 other (5 apps). His wife Ann was also aged 50 but she was born in Bury Hunts.(could she have been a Hughes or a Kimber) they had 5 children Amoss,Mary E, Annie U, Harry H, and Abraham B. By 1881 he is still living at Bury but his occupation is Iron Found ...chist Out Of Employ. (he could have retired as he is now aged 60). Living with him are his wife Ann and two sons Harry H aged 23 listed as "Engineers Son (Out Of Employ) (No Occ)" and Abraham B aged 23 also Engineers Son (Out Of Employ) (No Occ).
