Am looking for any details on Thomas WRIGHT (b: 1811)and his wife Sarah (b: 1816) or any of their three children Joseph (b: 1835 who married Mary b: 1833), William (b: 1838) and Harriett (b: 1840). All were born in Hertfordshire. Thomas was an agricultural labourer and Joseph became a Turncock at the New River Company. I believe Joshua Wright ( straw carter of Enfield in 1851 census) was born about 1803 in Bengeo. I think he may have died in Edmonton union Workhouse in 1883. Does anyone have information on his birth or death certificate? He married Susannah Amy Shephard ( sp?)and they had a number of children. One son Joshua George emigrated to New Zealand in 1859 after marrying Emma Perry. Any information would be appreciated.

I have this information about my great grandmother's family and hope anyone can add to it: Gwendolen Elizabeth Smith was born to George Smith (garden labourer) and Sarah Elizabeth (nee Hawkins) on Oct 13/1898 at Park Cottage in Benington. She thenwent on to get married on January 14, 1919 in Benington Parish Church to William Alexander Cullen (a Private of the 85 Batallion Canadians). Their witnesses were Samuel Draper, Sarah E. Smith, Borris Smith and ?someone? Chapman. Apparently her siblings were Dorothy (Daisy) later married Malcolm Fells, Lillian (became Hawkes), Nora (became Rosendale) and William (who married Ethel). Churchwarden of St. Peters, in Berkhamsted aft 1610. He was a Justice of the Peace, Member of Parliament, Agent for the Duchy of Cornwall in Berkhamsted abt 1612. This was the time of enclosures in Berkhamsted, in which he was involved with the Duchy lands. He was duputed to select 30 acres 'lying west upon the former inclosed grounds (Colharbour Farm), north uppon an highway leading from the great heath towards Aldbury, east uppon the opn Frith (Common) and south uppon the old fence of the Parke,' for the purpose. Left legacies to his children and grandchildren. Receipt in the accounts to the vestry includes 3/4d from him for the burial of his son George, in the church. Electd Sidesman in 1612 and signed the vestry proceedings that year, presented on 9 Apr 1613 in which he contributes another 3/4 d for his child Martha's grave. The Prince of Wales visited Berkhamsted in 1616 to be greeted by an oration by a student at Berkhamsted Grammar School. In 1613 a levy for repairs to the Church reveals that William's rae was the 6th highest in the Parish based on holding 23 acres arable, 2.5 acres meadow, and other wealth. One of the first 'Gentlemen' of 12 new Capital Burgesses when King James I granted the town a new Charter on...

I am searching for any ancestors and/or information on the Margrave family who lived in Berkhampsted. I have managed to trace them back to 1730 but have been unable to find anything earlier than this. One ancestor - William Margrave born 1756 was the son of William Margrave and Martha Hill and he was married to a Phebe(Pheabe) Fountain. Mark Margrave born 1779 was his son and was married to a Sarah Green in 1801. Grandson - George Margrave was born in 1805 and married twice, his first wife was a Mary Ann Redding and his second wife was Mary Ann Collins. He had a Linen Drapers and Haberdashery business in Castle Street and his father Mark was a shoemaker in the area also.

I am seeking information on the Mothersole family of Berkhamsted. Harry Mothersole, son of William and Caroline Mothersole was born at Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk in 1854. He married Elizabeth Allen and raised a family of eleven in the Berkhamsted area. He was a bricklayer and builder like many of the family. In the early 1900s they lived at 16 Denning Road Hampstead before he built Denning Cottage in High Street opposite Eddy Street in Berkhamsted circa 1910 where he lived with his family until his death in 1929. Matilda, one of his eight daughters , was my grandmother. She married Frederick Harris in 1910 and later lived in Exeter before emigrating to Australia in 1925. William Lovett was born in Chesham about 1794, married Lydia Hakesley in Berkhamsted in 1815. Children include Edward, born about 1822, possibly Rachel born about 1828. Edward married Ann (nee Cox) in 1849, eventually moved to Hammersmith where he was foreman of a creosote factory. Children were Ann (my great grandmother), Alice, Elizabeth, James. Would be interested in hearing from any other people with these in their tree. Please note - there is another William Lovett born about the same time in Chesham who may or may not be related.
