Ballards Portsea and Kent - Portsea
My GGGfather was Thomas Ballard, who was a coastguard for part of his life, and lived in Kent. His coastguard records give him as born in Portsea Hants 1794. The 1861 Census gives Thomas as being A 62 (B 1799) and the actual Census sheet clearly gives him as born in Portsea Hants. NB The transcribed sheets have an error, giving him as born in Herefordshire (I think). I can find no internet related cofirmation of his birth, other than the above, but have assumed (ie. yet to be proved), that as all the dates were right, he was a son of James and Ann Ballard, married in Portsea 1793. The current board, lists James and Ann as having 5 named children, but does not include Thomas. Can anyone help me on this. I have a query also with Ann, being, Ann Newton. In the 1861 Census she is living in Portsea with her daughter Charlotte. Her age is given as 84 (ie B 1777). The only record of Ann Newton I can find is Anne Newton - Born Portsea 1771. The name and the age of Ann Ballard in both the census and at Ann's death (1870) do not agree. Has anyone a confirmation that Ann Ballard was Ann Newton.

Kerridge Family at Portsea, Portsmouth,Islington, Maldon ? - Portsea
My grandfather's youngest brother was named Joseph Karridge (Kerridge?) Burridge and Joseph was born to John Burridge and Sarah Ann Burridge (nee Kerridge) in 1874. His birth was registered at Maldon, Essex. A later census gives his occupation as Fishmonger. He married in 1895 to either Louisa Sparks or Alice Young. This marriage was registered at Portsea 1895 Dec. quarter. A Joseph K. Burridge also married an Eliza M. Williams 1926 June quarter registered at Edmonton. These were the only marriages I could find for a Joseph K.Burridge or a Joseph Kerridge Burridge after his birth date. Joseph had brothers and sisters, eldest first : Phebe Burridge who married Louis Raven; Jessie Burridge who married Henry James Young;Emma Burridge who married Harry Franklin Harrington (sometimes shown as Franklin Harry Harrington); Arthur John Burridge m. a Sarah Frances ....? Faith Burridge married Francis William Wyatt;William Richard Burridge married Lily Maud ....? Louisa Burridge, died in her first year; Frederick George Burridge, married; Charles Edward Burridge (my grandfather) who married Alice Mary Slight (poss. Flight)1st wife, Melinda Elizabeth Brown 2nd wife, Dorothy A Saunders 3rd wife; Walter James Burridge married Alice Elizabeth ....? Joseph Kerridge Burridge was the youngest of 10 children. I would be glad to hear from anyone who thinks their family tree connects them to either Joseph Kerridge Burridge or his mother's family name of Kerridge. (I am not aware of any connections to either of the villages of Burridge or Kerridge at present). I believe John and Sarah's marriage was in 1858, registered at Maldon , Essex where all their children's births were also registered. John Burridge may have married a Louisa Kerridge in 1886 at Isington but I am not satisfied that this John Burridge is my great grandfather. Thank you for any extra information regarding these families.

Bacon Coleman marriage - Portsea
13th May 1805 Matthew BACON married Catherine COLEMAN at St Mary's, Portsea by Licence.
