Cohen - Portsea
I am looking for connections of Isaac COHEN and Phoebe MYER m. 1799 Gt. Synagogue,London. Isaac appears on the 1841 census for Portsea living in College St., with his children, Clara, Esther, Rachel, Amelia and Jacob. After Isaac's death in in abt 1843( not burried in Portsea ) the family may have returned to London. Amelia was my G.Grandmother and married Morris SAMUELS. In 1851 census they were living in Spitalfields, later moving to Gravesend, Kent.

Sarah Jane Cowling - born Field - Portsea
Born about 1852 probably in Portsea although possibly in Gosport. Her mother- Sarah Field - was possibly not married. Sarah Jane states on her marriage certificate that her father was William Field Solicitor. SJ also told her children that she livedas a child with a grandmother in Brockhurst until she ran away to her family in Portsmouth. On her marriage she appears to have moved to Guernsey where most of her family were born. However, she does appear to have returned to Portsmouth now and again, travelling also to London on business. Sarah Jane's mother married ( again?) later and there was a step brother, name unknown. Any help would be gratefully accepted!

KEMISH, MOORE, BREDEN - Portsea
I am trying to fill in details about my Grandmother and her family. She was named as Gladys Florence Viney born at 95 Toronto Road on 14th September 1905. Her mother Nellie Ann Moore registered her in the sub district North End and Buckland, Portsmouth on the 28th October 1905 address then 101 Toronto Road. Nellie A was the daughter of Lucy Ellen (nee KEMISH) and William MOORE married 7th April 1889 at Portsea, Hants. She was born on 21st January 1890 at 8 Wells Street, Landport. In the 1891 Census she was living with: William Moore a Gunner in the 16th Southern (RA) and Lucy Ellen at 2 Cross Street, Portsea. According to this information my Grandmothers mother was not yet 16 years old when she was born. I have read there were 'Bastardy Bonds in those days - where can I find more info? On my Grandmothers marriage certificate however she named her father as Percy Viney deceased - a sailor. We know nothing about her birth mother as Lucy Ellen brought her up. Lucy Ellen and Nellie Ann were living at 7 Grenville Road, Portsmouth. She as housekeeper to Thomas Sharp and Nellie Ann was a boarder. (Also on the 1901 Census there was a Percy Viney - 14 years - living at Harcourt Road, 9 Ladysmith Terrace, Portsmouth - son of...

Looking for any information on William Coote (b around 1787 in Portsea) and his wife Sally Blyth (born c 1788 Portsea?). They had a number of children, Sally, Eliza, Eliza Jane, Charlotte, Amelia and George William between 1809 and 1829. All were christened in St Marys or St Johns Portsea. William was a Customs Officer. Sally died sometime after 1829 and before 1840. In 1839 and onwards William lived in Toxteth Park, Liverpool. George, Charlotte and Amelia also lived there.

Witness Daniel Holland and Thomas Woodman Holland. Mary Ann and Michael were born in Ireland. possibility Cork. William Goodfellow died in Panama. He had a son William Michael Goodfellow born in Panama who died in New Zealand. Mary Ann Twomey remarried Thomas Gordon b Dundee Soctland and died in New Zealand. her 2nd marriage was at St Lukes Church, Landport on the 29 August 1892, Thomas Gordon aged 30 years Bachelor, Labourer, Southsea and Mary Goodfellow widow aged 29 years. married certificate signed by George Cox and Louisa White. Married by Earnest W Hamper Any information regarding these people is appreciated.

Cooper family - Portsea
For the past 20years I have been looking for information about my grandmother's family. She went to South Africa in abt.1883 as a young girl to be a nanny. As she was four years older than her next sibling I have often wondered if the younger members of the family knew that she existed. Her parents were William John Cooper and Mary Ann Richfield. Her father and brother, Robert, were members of the Royal Artillery. She was born in India and lived at the Hilsea Barracks for a while. Her siblings were: Mabel (aka May), Ellen, Robert, Alice, William, Ernest, Daisy, Elsie, Joseph and Eva. Daisy died as a child and I have all the information about Robert and Mabel who remained single. They lived in Twyford Avenue, Portsea. I have no information about any of the other family members. Does anyone know this family?
