Smith, Beavis, Carter, Sims - Lyndhurst, Hampshire
According to Lyndhurst parish records, Edward Smith, described as "a sojourner of this parish", married local resident Martha Beavis on 19 Oct 1781. Of approximately six children born to them between the years 1782-1799, at least two survived: John (christened 13 Jun 1783), and Elizabeth (christened 10 Apr 1796). John Smith became the Lyndhurst Parish Clerk, and married Mary Carter on 6 Aug 1812. Witnessing the wedding were his father Edward and his sister, Elizabeth. John and Mary had three sons, all born at Lyndhurst: Frederick (b.23 May 1813), John (b.8 Jun 1815), and Charles Edward (b. 01 Feb 1820). Later parish records indicate John Sr. was widowed and then married Mary Anne Sims on 28 Feb 1839. They had two daughters: Frances (christened 19 Oct 1840), and Elizabeth (christened 24 Mar 1843). Frederick became a banker's clerk. Apparently, he never married. He lived with his brother John from at least 1871 until his death in 1890 (see my posting at Kingston Upon Thames). John Jr. settled firstly in the Islington area of London, and married Jane (surname Byrne?) around 1844. They had four children: Maryann (b.1845), Frederick Charles (b.1847), Sarah Emily (b.1849), and Harry Tyrrell (b.1850). Jane Smith died around 1854. John then married Margaret Duguid Forrest in 1855. He was a stationer's commercial clerk for many years. He and Margaret had six children while living at Kingston Upon Thames. John's younger brother Charles Edward remained in Lyndhurst and became a tailor. He married Rhoda (surname unknown) around 1852. They had three daughters: Kate Fanny(b.1853), Rhoda (b.1854), and Clara (b. abt 1858). I would welcome contact from my cousins who share this ancestry.

John SAUNDERS m Elizabeth MASSEY Oct 11th 1853 - Lyndhurst, Hampshire
My great grandfather George Massey SAUNDERS, was born at Lyndhurst on Apr 14th 1854. He had a brother John (b 1855), and a sister Sarah Hannah (b 1856), and his parents were John SAUNDERS and Elizabeth MASSEY.
They were married at Lyndhurst (parishchurch on Oct 11th, 1853.
I am trying to find out where John and Elizabeth came from, for try as I might, I cannot find any trace of either of them.
According to IGI, a John SAUNDERS was married in 1831 to a Fanny MACEY, and they had several children, from 1833 through to 1850 (which must have been very hard work!!)
It is possible that John divorced Fanny and married Elizabeth, but there seems to be no evidence to support this possibility. Also Fanny had another child (William SAUNDERS) in 1859,though no father is given on the entry for his christening.
Not being familiar with the area around Lyndhurst, I do not know which neighbouring towns to look in for other SAUNDERS in the area. I have found only one possible provenance for Elizabeth MASSEY, but again it is only a name with no evidence other than being the right age, which is hardly enough to cry 'Mummy!!'.
If anyone can help, I would be most grateful, and would naturally share any info that I have with them......Regards...Phil H.
