Sarah Jane Cowling - born FIELD
- Gosport
Born about 1852 probably in Portsea although possibly in Gosport. Her mother- Sarah Field - was possibly not married. Sarah Jane states on her marriage certificate that her father was William Field Solicitor. SJ also told her children that she livedas a child with a grandmother in Brockhurst until she ran away to her family in Portsmouth. On her marriage she appears to have moved to Guernsey where most of her family were born. However, she does appear to have returned to Portsmouth now and again, travelling also to London on business. Sarah Jane's mother married ( again?) later and there was a step brother, name unknown. Any help would be gratefully accepted!
