John Alexander Phillips - Gosport
Looking for information on John Alexander Phillips (and his descendants).He retired to Gosport in 1905, initially to live on Brockhurst Road. Born 1850 in India he was a bandmaster in the British army and saw service in South Africa, Gibraltar, India and likely other places. He married Elizabeth Curtis in South Africa in 1873 and had children Lillian and Elizabeth Margaret (born in SA), John (born at sea), and Henry John Lawrence (born Twickenham late 1880). Following a divorce he married Julia Jane Rourke (the widow of James Bayne) in India and they had a daughter Olive Marion. Whether he stayed in Gosport long after 1905 is not known as army pension records are not in existence save for the fact he ceased drawing his pension about 1922, suggesting he died at that time.

I am seeking any information about my grandmother Evelyn Mary Burtonwood. She gave birth to my father Henry Bowyer at 'Greendale', Privett Road, Alverstoke (near Gosport) on 9 May 1917. My grandfather is listed on the birth certificate as Thomas Bowyer, Captain in the Royal Garrison Artillery (RGA). Henry COLLINS Commander RN 1792-1888 (Feb 08) Gosport I am urgently seeking information about the life and ancestry of Henry COLLINS born at either Alverstoke, near Gosport in 1792, son of George COLLINS (b. 1768) and Margaret nee FORBES both of Alverstoke, Hampshire, England. I believe he later joined the Royal Navy and eventually became a Commander. I am very keen to find out all I can both of this branch of the COLLINS family and of Henry's military career in the Royal Navy. Can someone please assist me? Also, more specifically I am seeking where the connection is with both the BRISSAULT & WESTMORE/WELSMORE familes. OwenCAVANOUGH came out to Australia in 1788 in the first fleet. One of his sons was James CAVANOUGH. This James married Esther HUXLEY in 1831 in the Mudgee area of New South Wales.Owen CAVANOUGH from Gosport Hamshire lived 1762 to 1841, He died in Australia, leaving a huge number of descendants. Due to the extensive size of that family i am confining myself to just the descendants of James CAVANOUGH and Esther(nee HUXLEY). Born on 24.7.1902 and died 26.7.1953 and is buried in Grayshott's churchyard. He was married to Doris May Kingshott, who was born 30.10.1906. She remarried after Richard had died, but she is buried in the same grave as Richard, she died 3.5.1991. I beleive they had a daughter Lilian J born 1927 and married Mears.
