James Jefferies born c 1807 - Stow-on-the-Wold
I have recently found from the 1851 census that my GGG Grandfather James Jefferies was born in Stow-on-the-Wold around 1807. He left Stow at some time and lived with his wife Elizabeth (nee Giles) and their son Edmund who was born in 1840 in Highworth, Wiltshire. I can not find any record of James and Elizabeth's marriage certificate so unfortunately I am now stuck and am unable to progress any further. I am trying to trace the ancestry of sisters Harriet and Rebecca Elbro, born in Stow-on-the-Wold in about 1811 and 1814 respectively (per later censuses). Harriet's 1839 marriage certificate shows her father to have been Thomas Elbro or Ellbro, a butcher, deceased by the time of her marriage in Lambeth on 5 May 1839. Both sisters led their married lives in London. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

In the 1881 census Olive was working as a Charwoman, and living in Stroud, and in 1901 she was living in Daisy Bank, Stroud.She had 5 children Caroline (b:abt 1868 and she later moved to the South coast),George (b:abt 1871),Alfred William (b:1876-d:1951 he is my gt grandfather)and he moved to Dudley, Worc about 1917,Rosa(b:1880) and Lily(b:1881).Olive married on 3/4/1886 to Samuel Orchard Webb at Stroud Register Office, they had 3 children Dick / Richard(1886),Agnes(1888-1953)who moved to Dudley, Worc and Charles(1890)he moved to Sheffield, South York and married Nellie ? and had 2 children Donald and Olive.

Herbert & Bowns Families, Stroud Hill - Stroud
In 1842,Mary Bowns of Stroud Hill, daughter of Henry, married George Herbert of Bisley, son of George, at Stroud Register Office. Witnessed by Henry Bowns & Eliza Bown.(spelling varies!) Their son Charles Herbert, also of Stroud Hill, married Elizabeth Hall at Rodborough in 1870. Any connections sought. I have lots of information on Herbert family, not much on Hall or Bown.

SMART of Stroud - Stroud
Hi all, Im currently trying to track down details of a John SMITH and Ann Smith (nee SMART) who according to the the 1861 Census lived on Vines Lane, Droitwich. Any details of a SMART family from Gloucester would be a help too, legend has it she was the Daughter of a mayor of gloucester, but he may only have been an alderman or something similar! I know they had there first child in 1862, so im presuming they got married around that time... but then again!!! If anyone has any details or could help in any way id be very grateful. Thanks Matt

Caroline CROFT - Stroud
My wife's Gt Grandmother is named on her marriage certificate as Caroline Merrett M Kuer CROFT, with father's name Thomas CROFT. She is shown as age 20 in 1874, but we have been unable to find any birth record. Has anyone any ideas. All census records give her birthplace as Stroud Gloucestershire. She married George Beman GREEN, a farmer and by 1881 nthey were living in Buckinghamshire. Oddly, the census would suggest that a younger sister was living with them, but she had the surname FREEMAN.

Samuel wound up travelling the high seas and had many adventures, including a shipwreck and mutiny, before coming to Australia, where he worked as a lighthouse keeper. James Webb/ Stroud - Stroud
Iam looking for info re James Webb and his family. Although I have found them on all the census returns except 1901 I would like to know more about the area in which they lived. In 1881 they were listed as living on Tower Hill and his occupation as innkeeper. Could someone tell me where Tower Hill is (was) and possibly even the name of the inn. Looking for info on the family of Peter Harding Wood (bill poster and china dealer) who lived in Stroud 1850-1900 approx he was married firstly to Lydia ? and then to Hester Sutton (b Brinkworth Wilts) There were several children. one was Wallis Harding Wood (who may have died as a young man)and my g-grandmother Clara Annie who Married Henry Hemming station master of Stonehouse in the 1890`s Clara named her first child Raymond Wallis.I think that Hester Sutton may have also been married previously.
