Amongst them was a box of old photos. They have no connection with our family and assumedly belonged to someone who died around the same time in the same area. The names on the photographs are largely Wells, Knott and Simms. The locations are Gloucester, Belfast, Richmond, Warrington, Sale and Epsom. There are several photos of family members in the RN. If anyone can help me put these family memories into the right hands I would be very much obliged. My uncle Ernest George Sproston NOKES was born in Gloucester in Sept 1894. He is reputed to have been made a Freeman of the borough on the day of his birth along with others born the same day. The family was poor so the title of Freeman would not have been earned, as is usual and in any even he was newborn. The Freemanship was supposedly given to commemorate some important event.
