WALL family in Bristol, Gloucestershire
- Bristol
My oldest known Wall ancestor was William Wall, b. 1801, Gloucestershire, England. He married Harriet Sweet in Bristol on 26 Oct 1823 and had two children, Edwin and Harriet Amelia (Edwin dying as a child). Harriet died some time after, perhaps in a cholera epidemic in the summer of 1832, as William married Harriet Randall on 15 Oct 1832 and had Emma Matilds, b. 1835, William Edwin, b. 1837, George Henry, b. 1840 and Charles, b. 1842. It's likely that Emma died young and Charles definitely died in 1851. My ancestor William Edwin Wall came to America in 1861 or 1862 and fought in the Civil War for New Jersey, eventually settling in Cincinnati and working as a potter, a trade his father had taught him in Bristol. George Henry Wall stayed in England and had a family. Harriet Amelia Wall also had a family, marrying a Richards.
I've found info that says the Wall family had deep roots in Gloucestershire, England. If you think you may be related to the family, please contat me.

MAHONEY Michael/Ellen & family in Bristol
- Bristol
I'm searching for any descendants of Michael (b. 1835) & Ellen Mahoney (b. 1836), both born in Cork (Michael from Mitchelstown, Cork) and are listed in the 1881 Census at Princess Amelia Court in Bristol. The children are;
Phillip b. 1869 (My Great-Grandfather)
Ellen b. 1864
Catherine b. 1866
Julia b. 1874
Ann b. 1878
Phillip (Philip) is my Great Grandfather and married Catherine (Downey) 1873 - (daughter of Michael Downey and Julia Hurley). Phillip was a mechanical engineer at Merchant Ventures (Bristol University). They lived various addresses such as St. Georges Road, 3 Frog Lane, etc., always remaining in the same district of Bristol. The kids went to St. Mary's on the Quay.
Phillip & Catherine married September 21, 1893 St. Nicholas of Tolentino, Stapleton Road, Bristol and had the following children;
Phillip (Jr), Catherine (m. Michael Cronin), Ellen Julia, Peter John (Jack), George Joseph, William and Michael (died as infants), Patricia Josephine, Winifred Julia (m. G. Scott), Cecelia Fransisca (Sheila).
These children were born betweens the years of 1894 and 1915. My Grandfather was George Joseph (approx 1903) and my father has spent years searching for his BC, and has baptisms for most of the kids but George. We have George's school records at St. Mary's on the Quay, but only after going there from an unknown infant school. So his birthdate was calculated from that record only.
Grampa George came to Canada in 1923 with his brother Peter John, but because Canada was under the British Empire, no immigration or paperwork was required as he was a British subject. George died in 1959 here in Canada, where I write from and I'm trying to help my Dad with this search for George or any other descendants of these famlies. We have the ship manifest from the Empress of France, and his DOB seems to coincide with school records. He may have been adopted but he seems to fit in perfectly with the timing of all the children born to Phillip and Catherine. We're thinking with Phillip's career as a teacher, George may have been born elsewhere, but the family seemed to be rooted in Bristol for many, many years. There's a George Joseph in 1903 year in Dartford Kent, but that's a long way from Bristol.
Anyone info about this family is sincerely welcomed!

William Hurlow Hagan
- Bristol
William was born in Bristol in 1859. Married Annie Louisa Sainsbury in Bristol in 1880. Had five children (2 girls, 3 boys). Annie died 1888.
Willliam then married Sarah Ann East in 1889, they had a daughter Emily Maud in 1890. From this point I am fuzzy...
I know that Sarah Ann married Charles Underwood in 1891 - I have the marriage certificate, which states she is a widow. I naturally assumed William had died but could never find a date of death. Sarah Ann had a son, Victor in 1895, with Charles. By 1901 Sarah was alone again, with Emily and Victor and about 5 lodgers. Again it states she is a widow, and is using the name Hagan along with the children.
Surprisingly, William appears on the 1891 census in Exeter, living alone, his children still in Bristol with his father. In 1901, William appears to be living in Stoke Newington with a wife, Mary, 12 years his junior, along with his three sons. I cannot find a marriage for William to Mary, and I have had absolutely no luck finding his death. All help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
