Wakefield - St George Bristol
- Bristol
My gtgt/gfather, JOHN WAKEFIELD was born abt 1812 in St George Bristol. In 1831 he was part of the 10,000 strong political riot of Bristol, and subsequently earned 7 years in Australia. UK and Aust penal records do not name his parents, but there are a family of Wakefields found in St George in the 1851, 1881, and 1891 census's. It is possible that John's mother was Charlotte 1773, with brothers William 1789, Henry 1808, Isaac 1809, George 1823. Those names appear on the St George census and are duplicated in John's sons in Australia. I would be glad to hear from anyone linking into that family, or able to assist.
regards, Len

Williams, HELEN, HERBERT, SIDNEY
- Bristol
All born in Bristol 1848 - 1851.
Parents were Richard and Elizabeth who came to New Zealand about 1874 when both were in their sixties. Why? It must have been a very traumatic journey. Two of their six children pre-deceased them and four of them were in New Zealand before they made this hazardous voyage. From the death certificates I have worked out that Helen and Herbert died before their parents. I don't know if they died in the UK or here in NZ. I would appreciate help from the Bristol area. Many thanks.
