James Henry dropped the THOMAS from his name & became known as BALL upon his arrival. He was the illegitimate son of James Henry BALL and Mary THOMAS, baptized on 11/6/1809. His father (1785 - 1847)later went on to marry Betty (Elizabeth?) HARRIS and had a family by her. James Henry BALL (THOMAS) had a total of 22 children - 12 from marriage to Ann PRICE and 10 by second wife, Catherine HANLEY. Most settled in South Australia and south-western Victoria.

Stephen CLUTTERBUCK and Elizabeth HOBBS married in Hasfield in Nov 1784 had their family in Hasfield/Ashleworth during 1785-1810. One son, James, married (? SURMAN) in Gloucester in Aug 1816 and settled in Deerhurst/Apperley parishes. I am a descendant of William, brother to James (they had a double wedding), who started a 'dynasty' of blacksmiths in Northwood Green (Westbury on Severn) from about 1814 until 1900. My direct ancestor James migrated to New Zealand in 1878. His father and grandfather were both William and both married a BALDWIN woman.

My ancestor was a William Moore, bap at Arlingham on 20.3.1785. In 1805 he married Elizabeth Todman at Portsea in Hampshire while he was a serving soldier in the Napoleonic wars. He spent the last years of his life in the Lord Leycester Hospital inWarwick (a home for retired servicemen). I am trying to trace the family of a John Smith from Ashton Under Hill.They moved to Emsley Castle in the late 1860s where the father Hubert became a publican.He died in 1876 and his wife took over from him John became a servant in London and it looks as if he was a butler for the Duke of Buckingham in the early 1890s not long before he died leaving his wife Mary with 3 children in London.My interest with this family is that one of my Gr Gr Grandfather's sisters was married to him(they met whilst in service together in London)
