The Cut, Beaumont
- Beaumont
On my father's birth certificate, he is listed as being born The Cut, Beaumont. I have been unable to find this on any map...The Cut, that is! Can anyone enlighten me on where this would be on a map....this was from 1921. I have a suspicion it may have been part of a farm perhaps...my grandfather, Herbert George Edwin Payne was an agricultural labourer. My father's name was Leslie Herbert Payne, born The Cut, Beaumont, 19th April 1921. If anyone has any information on this family also, I would much appreciate your help.

Beaumont cut
- Beaumont
Beaumont in Essex's full name is Beaumont-cum-Moze. The cut is where the river joins the sea. A marshy area between Beaumont village and Thorpe-le-Soken. Follow directions for Beaumont Quay. Much of this land had been left to a London Hospital (Guy's I think). There are two or three farms in this area. Long ago there had been a building by the Quay front, built with bricks from one of Londons bridges. I don't know if this was a warehouse/hospital or was lived in. Only the foundation remains.

In the 1881 Census my great grandfather Alfred Ambrose Coldham was registered at Church Farm, Wash Road, Belchamp St Paul, a farm of 118 acres with 3 men and 2 boys.
