Hebblethwaite - Great Sampford
Thomas Hebblethwaite was born Gt. Sampford about 1788, was a schoolmaster in Hempstead 1848, and had several children (Harriet, Elizabeth, William, Frances) and possibly nephews (George, Henry) with whom he lived in 1861, 1871.
I found a record of a Henry Hibblethwaite marrying Susanna Wright in Gt. Sampford 1789, but don't know if they're connected.
Would be grateful for any information about Hebblethwaites in any part of Essex.

Lilley, Samuel or James (his son) - Great Sampford
I am researching my family history and have traced my great granddad, Samuel Lilley, to Great Sampford where he married "Mary" from Wimbish. They had a son, James, in 1849 who had sister Mary Ann 4 years older and an elder brother Joseph, 9 years his senior.
I have traced Samuel, Mary his wife and James, to Lambeth in the 1861 Census. I would love information on any of these. Barry.

The Black Bull - Great Sampford
My Great Great Great Great Great Great grandfather Steward Porter owned the Black Bull and left it to his son William Porter in his will in 1762. I have never seen the place as I live in Australia, although I do have a picture of an ingraving from 1800.

FULLER, Charles - Great Sampford
I'm trying to find the marriage of a Charles FULLER, born c1822 in Great (Old) Sampford, Essex to a Mary MOUNTFORD (also shown as MUMFORD).
Charles may have married previously.
Charles is known to have lived in Tottenham from around 1856, one address being 728 High Road, Tottenham where he is shown as a Furniture Dealer (1871) and later a Tobacconist. He is also shown living at 12 Whitehall Terrace, High Road, Tottenham. He is also known to have been a Bricklayer and a Lodging House keeper.

Descended from William Wright & Martha Halls (both born Sampford, Essex 1786) and George Wright (b. 1806) and Eliza Prior. Son Alfred went off to London and is my line. Any descendents? William lived in the Beershop, later White Horse Pub-where was it?

Hi I'm trying to find out the parents of William Eldrett born between 1839 and 1843 in Sampford/Thaxted. There were 2 William Eldrett's born at about the same time but I'm not sure who the parents of mine were. He married Emma Church and they later moved to Islington. JANE BROYD - Great Sampford
Trying to trace JANE BROYD. Her name appears as a witness on the marriage certificate of William Broyd (West Ham, June 1874) together with that of William's brother Josiah Broyd (widower). I can find no further trace of her, but presume she was born in the Great Sampford area like the rest of the family.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Researching family of Ridg(e)well/Redgewell from Gt. Totham who moved to Finchingfield c. 1830. James Redgewell of Great Totham (bc. 1810) married Mary Clark of Gt. Braxted in 1830 in Gt. Braxted. Their children Elisabeth, James, Eliza, William, Samuel, Charles and Arthur T. were born in Finchingfield and Wethersfield. Arthur T. married Sarah Whitehead in 1872. Sarah's parents were John Whitehead and Rebecca Suckling. Anyone else researching these people?

They lived in Gt Wakering - had children Ada, Caroline, Eliza, Emanuel, Ernest, Frederick, Israel, Maud, Percy, Wilfred,William. William's aunt Susan ran a pub there with her husband Daniel Bradley and William was brought up there after his mother Sarah died of cholera.

My great great grandfather Samuel French can't make his mind up on various censuses whether he was born in Little Wakering or Shoebury! He was born about 1817, married Hannah Maria Battram in 1841 in North Shoebury. Lived variously in Great Wakering, South Benfleet and Thundersley. Died in 1873 at Benfleet. Father was Daniel. There are several families of Frenchs in Gt Wakering area - not sure if they are related.

Looking for information on the Eve family of Gt Waltham, particularly their connection to Elizabeth Eve who in 1841 was running the Butchers Arms at Woodham Ferrers. Harriet Eve born 1824 Gt Waltham married in 1859 to John Orriss born 1838 Woodham Walter.By 1862 John and Harriet were running the Butchers Arms where they remained until after 1902.

Martchall (Marshall), Devenish, Eve, etc. Families - Great Waltham
My great-great-grandfather George Martchall(Marshall) married Mary Devenish in 1835 at Terling. Mary was the fourth child of Ephraim Devonish and Ann (Eve), baptised at Gt. Waltham in 1810.
Ephraim was baptised as Denish or Danish ? I canÕt decideconclusively about the parish register entry - but married as Devonish at Lt. Waltham in 1801. He was the son of Thomas Denish and Mary (Prior) married at Lt. Leighs in 1765. This marriage was recorded by Boyd but I havenÕt found it in the parish register so far.
I am fairly certain that Ann Eve was the daughter of Thomas Eve and Ann (Bush), who was baptised at Pleshey in 1782. Thomas married Ann in 1773 in Mashbury and he was probably the son of the John Eve who married Joanna Bush in 1739 at Gt. Waltham.
George Martchall was the son of Edward Martchall and Elizabeth (Bearman), who were married at Fairstead in 1803. Elizabeth was baptised at Terling in 1779. When he was married, Edward was recorded as Marshall both in the Fairstead PR and in the banns register at Terling. By the 1881 census all the branches of the family, that I have traced so far, were recorded as Marshall.
