SCOTT, DOUBLE
- Great Oakley
I would be interested to hear from anyone with connections to the name SCOTT in Great Oakley around 1830.
My GG Grandfather Henry Double married a Mary Ann Scott in Great Oakley in 1853. Mary Ann was born in Great Oakley.
I would also be interested to hear if work is to be carried out on the graveyard at the Parish Church as when we visited in October it was in such a terrible state that a fox had built a den and was using the churchyard as a feeding ground.
It is so overgrown that it dangerous as Essex graves have foot stones as well as headstones and these, quite literally are about a foot high and well below the height of the weeds and thickets.
It was very sad to see such a wonderful church left in that way and would take just a weekend of hard work to bring it back to perfect tranquil beauty. I just wished I lived closer as I would be one of the first to volounteer for such work.
Thanks
Sandra
