Brand's Farm, Great Dunmow - Great Dunmow
My mother took me to see Brand's farm, when I was a child (a long time ago) and she said she used to be sent there from London when she was a child for the summer holidays and the farm was owned by her relations, but I have not been able to prove this. Can anyone give me any information on this farm which is still there today.

Barnard - Great Dunmow
Looking for info about Elizabeth Brand BARNARD, nee ADAMS, baptised at Great Waltham 2/5/1825 daughter of Samuel Adams, miller and farmer, and his wife Mary nee BRAND (who came from Thaxted). Married 24/9/1846 at Gt Dunmow to Wyatt BARNARD, farmer of Little Canfield, son of John Barnard. Wyatt appears to have died 1856. I know of three children of the marriage, Mary Elizabeth, aged 11 at 1861 census, Fanny Jane (8) and Wyatt Henry (5).In 1881 Elizabeth was living and farming at "Olives", Great Dunmow, Mary and Fanny were living with her, unmarried, but Wyatt junior was living as a boarder in Kensington, London. Elizabeth seems to have died 12/1887 apparently never remarried. I would be very grateful for any info re what happened to her children and any later descendants. Her father Samuel Adams once owned the site of my house, hence my interest.

Have researched the Bird family of Great Dunmow and Thaxted. They spent most of the 19th Century and early 20th Century at Church End Great Dunmow. Vital information should have been available on 1851 Census but have not been able to access this Census although all others are available. Anyone have information on 1851 in the area surrounding Great Dunmow.

SKINGLE - Great Dunmow
My Skingle family goes back to Dunmow. My G.G.G grandad William was born there in 1806 with his 3 brothers and sister Mary. He had 5 children, one being Mark, born 1836 (my G.G grandad) he married Elizabeth Lee from Dunmow and they went on to have 9 children, and lived in the White Horse Inn, Chelmsford. They both died in Dunmow. The most recent I have traced to Dunmow, is Agnes, my grandad Mark Leonard's sister. Agnes had 6 children with Hubert Wells. Anyone have anymore information?

James Bird of Essex/Dunmow/High Easter; Born c1810 - Great Dunmow
I am attempting to trace the family of my paternal Grandmother:- ELIZA ANN BIRD – born 1871, in High Easter, Essex. She was living at Pleshey Road, Dunmow, Essex, aged 10, and a Scholar at time of 1881 census, and at 45, Crossingham Road, Lewisham, London, working as a Domestic Servant, aged 20, at the time of the 1891 census. She married Julius James Law in December 1897 in Islington, London. She was with Julius James, in India at the time of the 1901 census. She returned to live in Ayr, Scotland, around 1907. Died around 1940 at her daughter Ivy's home at The Chuckery, Walsall, Staffs. Her 5 Siblings were: ELLEN J. BIRD born c1869, GEORGE BIRD born c 1870, SARAH A. BIRD born c 1873, KATE BIRD born c 1875, and FLORENCE MARY BIRD born c 1882. She had 6 Children (all with surname Law): Stanley, Harold, Charles, Dolly, Reginald and Ivy. Her father was CHARLES BIRD, born 1845, in High Easter. Charles had 2 siblings; STEPHEN BIRD (c1838), and JOSEPH BIRD (c1842), both born in High Easter. Their father was JAMES BIRD, born in Great Dunmow Essex, c 1810. This is as far as can get; If anyone has any links with any of the above named persons, to enable me to research my family tree further, it would be greatly appreciated. Geoff
