My ggg grandfather was William KNOPP m Jane VALE and had 5 children, three of whom were James, John and Eliza. James Knopp b. 1827(my gg grandfather) m. 7 July 1851 Sophia Lydia CLAY b.1928 and immigrated to Australia with eldest 2 children William and Emma ohe 'Grand Trinon' in May 1857. I have a lot of information on this line and am interested in hearing from anyone with information on the Knopp name from Grays, Thurrock Essex.

He is s/o George Fitch b 1836 Chelmsford and Emily BEATTIE, b 1849 Great Hallingbury; they had 5 sons and one daughter. George is s/o Samuel Fitch b 1786 Great Baddow, Chelmsford and Sophia RUSSELL, b 1811. They had 2 sons and 5 daughters. Samuel was s/o Edward Fitch and Jane, m abt 1784 (first child Edward bap 1785 in Baddow Lane Old Chapel, Chelmsford). Joseph ALDRIDGE of Great Baddow married Elizabeth LEWINTON, widow, nee GREATOREX of Sharpenhoe in the Parish of Streatly, Beds.
They had at least 2 sons:-
1)Joseph ALDRIDGE who had a daughter, Sarah Hunter Cooper ALDRIDGE
2)Edward Bright ALDRIDGE (Edward's mother Elizabeth was the daughter of the Rev. John GREATOREX and his wife Anne, nee BRIGHT)
Joseph signed his will 3 Sept. 1811. It was proved at London 7 April 1814. Elizabeth was left 2100 pounds.
I wish to make contact with descendants of Joseph & Elizabeth. They had grandchildren

3)Edgar 1817- 4) Alexander 1819- 5)Augustus 1821-
6)Julia 1823-
...all with surname ALDRIDGE.

My great, great, great grandfather, Arnold Thorne was (according to the 1881 census) born in Great Bardfield, Essex c. 1831/1832. Have only found reference to one church, St Mary the Virgin, but no luck so far in locating baptism record. Is/was thisthe only church there? He was a Bootmaker and at some point moved to North London.

The Undershells were an important family of London tanners and I suspect George Hills was connected with the trade.His son George became a London tanner, another son Thomas Bryant Hills was a London Corn factor.

Thomas COLE (c 1825-1900) from Great Bardfield, son of Samuel COLE, carpenter, married Charlotte POTTER of Coggeshall, Exeter (c 1829-1884), daughter of Sarah and Thomas POTTER, also a carpenter, in 1849. They lived in the London area (Shoreditch, Bethnal Green and Hackney) where they had at least seven children: Charlotte Bella (later SAUNDERS) (1851-1934), William (b. c. 1853), Thomas (b. c 1855), Sarah Ann (b. 1859), Harry (b. 1861), Kate (b. 1862) and Florence (b. 1867). Thomas worked in sales. There is a family story that one of the boys became a court hairdresser. If you have any information about this family, please contact me. I have some census records as well as a few marriage and birth certificates to share.
