Henry Richardson COWAN Wheelwright/Coachbuilder - Eastwood
Keenly seeking photographs of the family or house of my grandparents, Henry Richardson COWAN (b. 1873 at Bow, Middlesex), Wheelwright/Coachbuilder and Fanny Esther COWAN nee PATTERSON (b. 1879 at Vauxhall, Surrey). They married at Thundersley, Essex in 1896 and settled in Eastwood about 1897. Henry worked at home and according to old maps the house was located somewhere near the corner of Southbourne Grove and the Arterial Road, then called Princes Avenue, Eastwood. I believe the house may have been one of the Pest Houses but am still uncertain about this, as an old map I have fails to clear up this location dilemma! In fact the family knew of the house as 'Pleaseant Place'. They had children Frederick Henry (b, 1898), Reginald Wilfred, Edwin Charles, Ernest William Robert, Arthur, Albert, Cecil Walter, Esther Fanny (b.1897) and my mother Edith May, born in 1915. I have absolutely no photographs of the family or house from this era and would love to have copies if someone knew this family?? or passed any photos down to descendants. Any help is very much appreciated. My mother is now 93 and the last of her generation. I would love to surprise her with some previously unseen photos! Cheers, Rob, Australia

EDWARD HURRELL BDM RECORDS - Elmstead
My GG Grandfather was Edward Hurrell and he was born abt 1836. He came to Adelaide, South Australia as a Labourer before 1862 when he married my GG Grandmother, Mary Sandwell. I have not been able to find his name on any shipping records. The only connection I have of him to England is his father's name which was on their Marriage Certificate, and that was Charles Hurrell. Edwards age on the Marriage Certificate was given as 26. I have searched everywhere for an Edward Hurrell and only found two with possible birth dates around 1836 but I am leaning towards an Edward Hurrell who appeared in the Tendring Union Workhouse in 1841 with possibly his brother Philip(aged 7 & 8). An Edward Hurrell also appears on the 1851 Census as a lodger aged 15, so possibly the same one. He does not appear on the 1861 Census, so this could explain that he was on his way to Australia, or already here. Would appreciate any help in finding my family roots. Regards, Carmel

FOSTERS George and Mary - Epping
I am looking for any relatives of the above couple who may still be in the Epping/Chingford or general Essex area. George Foster b 1840 was a career serviceman in the Royal Marine Light Infantry from 1859 until 1881. Whilst based at Forton Barracks in Portsmouth he had married Mary Rowland b 1849 from Alverstoke. By the time they moved to Epping (6 Queens Terrace Grove) they had 5 children - they eventually had 10 before they left Epping. The other thing I would dearly love to know is the occupation of George Foster while in Epping. The 1891 census says he is a "Constable, Central Marker(t)". This means nothing to me nor apparently to the museum in Essex! He was an accomplished horseman and I assumed he might be a Forest Ranger. Someone suggested that "Central Marker" might be something to do with the various Markers around Epping Forest and I know there is a Central Marker where the Meridian line runs through the Forest. Can anyone help me with this and possibly any descendants of the family still lurking in the Forest. I would be most grateful. (I think George Foster may have been widowed whilst living in Epping - I have found a death entry for 1892 for a Mary Rowland - the age is correct and the registration of death was at Colchester. Can anyone give me a clue as to the nearest C of E church or graveyard to the Queens Grove Terrace address please.
