17th century Barking - Barnes family
- Barking
I live in the U.S., and I've traced part of my family back to Thomas Barnes, who was born in 1623 in Barking, Essex. (There were also three generations of Thomas Barneses before him, but I'm not sure if they were in Barking, Essex, or Barking, Sussex.) My query is whether there is anything left in modern Barking from those times (early 17th century or before) -- even if just a church or churchyard. Might it be worth a visit, or has it been transformed into a relatively modern suburb? If perchance anyone knows anything about Barneses there, that would be great to know too.
