George married Elizabeth Mitson of Hatfield. He moved to Hull with his Inronmonger business, then in 1886 sailed for Melboune Australia with his wife and 10 children. The family probably received a parting gift of a photo album which they filled with pictures of relatives and acquaintences from Chelmsford.

George Wood's Photo Album - Chelmsford
The George Wood family travelled down from Hull to London by train in 1886 and then went in separate directions (all 12 of them) to spend their last days in England with various relatives in Chelmsford and Tunbridge Wells. They were soon to sail for Melbourne Australia, never to see these people again. As a parting gift they must have received an empty photo album and proceeded to fill it with people that they knew and wanted to remember. There are the relatives of course, but many are servants or fellow ironmongers and the local chemist. Some of the men have top hats, and the ladies have bonnets and are quite elderly. The following is a list of the non-relatives that are found in the album that have a Chelmsford or Essex connection. The names are written on the photos. Charles Baker, chemist, Mrs. Charles Baker, Mr. Baker Sr., Miss Butler, John Callender, John Copeland, Mrs. Courtwright, Mrs. Elizabeth Greenwood, Harry Hicks, Mrs. Harry Hicks.
