Family Connections - Stanhope
My Mother, Mary Elizabeth Morris was born 1915 in Hawthorn Cottage (now known as Thorne Cottage) in Stanhope. Her Mother, Annie Morris nee Duffy had returned from Canada with a young Son Johnny and expecting my Mum (no husband). My mother was baptised in St Thomas of Canterbury RC Church. The registrar on her birth certificate was John Bainbridge who at a later date owned Thorne Cottage. I have no idea why she was in Stanhope as her family lived in Newcastle. They moved back to Newcastle at some stage but I know that Johnny eventually married Dorothy Thompson of Stanhope. I would love to know what the connection to Stanhope was in the first place and what was the history of Thorne Cottage which at some time looks as if it was part of Leicester House which stands on Front Street. Any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated Kind Regards Anne-Marie

Sarah Wilkinson - Stockton-on-Tees
Looking for information on Sarah WILKINSON, born at Preston on Tees on 18 June 1854. Her parents are named on the birth certificate as Thomas WILKINSON and Mary nee HALL. Thomas and Mary married at Stokesley on 14th May 1840. Census information indicates that both were born c1815, Thomas at Appleton Wiske in North Yorkshire and Mary at Brancepath near Brandon in Co Durham. On their marriage certificate, Thomas's father is named as Thomas, a labourer, while the spaces for information about Mary's father are crossed through and it therefore seems likely that she was illegitimate. The occupation of both Thomas and Mary are given on the marriage certificate as 'servant'. Sarah married William HEBRON of Hutton Rudby at St Paul's parish church in Middlesbrough on 2 November 1875, when her father's occupation is given as 'engineman'... I'd also like to make contact with descendants of Sarah's siblings: Ann, George, Elizabeth, Thomas, Mary Jane, William and Isabel born between 1840 and 1856, mostly in Preston on Tees.
