LISTERS of TUDHOE, FERRYHILL and possibly BRANCEPETH - (Ferryhill - Durham)
I have been looking for relatives, ancestors and descendants of James Taylor of Spennymoor who married JANE ANN LISTER on 20th Oct. 1874 at Holy Innocents, Tudhoe.Their son Thomas was my Grandfather. In 1871 James' mother, Catherine Taylor was an Innkeeper of the Bridge Inn at Whitworth near Spennymoor. James and Jane Taylor took over the Inn after James' mother died. They had several children - Catherine Jane ('Kate') who married James Walker in 1915 and lived with him at the Bridge Inn, Ruswarp near Whitby; Elizabeth(Bessie) who possibly never married but went into business with George White (possibly) and was shown as living at Hartlepool on 1901 Census; Rachel who married a John C Airey in 1913 and was widowed in 1915/16 with two small daughters; Edith (Edie) who married Tom Knight and moved to Leicestershire and had children Annie, Mellie (or Nellie),Edwin, Tom, and Richard; Ann (Annie); Ernest who married a Maggie (Margaret?), and Thomas, my grandfather, who married Bertha Annie Coates on 26th June 1902 at St. Andrews, Tudhoe. Jane Ann Taylor's brother, Thomas Lister, married Mary Jane Metcalfe on 21st May 1874 at Holy Innocents, Tudhoe. Her sister, Elizabeth Lister married George Rutherford on 9th February 1873 at Holy Innocents, Tudhoe. Their brother, Isaac Lister married Isabella Stott on 22nd December 1875, also at Holy Innocents, Tudhoe. A 'Jackie' Lister relative of theirs was the schoolteacher at Willington and then Tudhoe schools with his wife, Sarah (nee Coates) during 1850's, 1860's until his death in Aug. 1877. Are there still Listers or their descendants with a connection to this family still living in the Ferryhill/ Spennymoor or Co. Durham areas? I would be pleased to hear from these Lister descendants, especially if they believe themselves to be great or great-great grandchildren of Thomas and Mary Lister, Isaac and Isabella Lister, or Elizabeth and George Rutherford, wherever they may be.

John William Marriott Lodge,1879 - (Gainford - Durham)
John William Marriott Lodge was born in Ecclesall Bierlow, Sheffield, son of Joseph Lodge from South Emsall,Yorkshire and Emily Pigg from Bishop Aukland, Durham.
