Harriet Clark - Felling
Harriet married Edward Elliot Armstrong at St Alban's church, Heworth on 17 April 1911 at the age of 23. She lived on Hewitson Crescent, Felling. Her father, James, was a coal-miner. I have been unable to find a birth certificate relating to her although I understand she was born in Felling. Was there a home for unmarried mothers in Felling in the late 1800s as I wonder if she was adopted by James. Can anyone please help? I've been able to trace the Armstrong side back to 1760 but I've hit a brick wall here!

Tring to find out about a couple of names in my family bible. Jonathan and Mary Ord. They were born c1768/1769. Jonathan was a tailor and died Holly Hill Felling 1845 and Mary died Holly Hill Felling 1847. A possible maiden name for Mary is Reed.

I'm looking for any information about my ancestors, namely: William Hanlon b.1861 (shipwright) married to Jane Ann Story b.1866 d.1899. Also my mothers side of the family the Graham's: Thomas William Graham b.1871 married in 1894 to Mary Isabelle Lambert b.1874 in Lanchester. There is also a connection again with the name Story or Storey as this was the first name of one of their sons. James.

My grandfather was John Bell who was one of a large family descended from William Bell who was a "waterman" or lighterman who lived at Low Heworth Lane, Felling Shore. He married an Elizabeth Richardson. I cannot find any marriage cert for these two. William's father (another William) was also a waterman and lived with his stepfather in Bill Quay. Any information please.

I am looking for information on my Great Grandparents. George Henry Lowery born 10/7/1886, Durham, County England And Elizabeth(Lizzie) Ann Reed born August 2, 1887. Married March 6, 1909, Chester Street, Durham County England. GG father passed away when he was young. GG's father was a lay Methodist preacher traveled by train to preach.Was to be picked up by a man who didn't show up. Walked in cold February rain got pnemonia and died on the following Tues at age of 32. I have no clue as to where. Looks like his name might have been Thomas.Around 1894 guessing if married around the age of 24. Mother remarried to a W J Black. Black had a daughter Margret Ann, pictured with son(name starts with J cant read rest) and 2 girls Lily & Maggie. Don't know his mother's name. I know he has sister and brother. GG worked in coal mines at Fence Houses. Mr. Black was to be a mine manager. GG was an ambulance driver. Recalled mine disaster that 146 men and lads lost their lives. Said the mine was sealed later. 1912'ish. GGma Lizzie worked in Lambton Castle as a girl. GGmas father was Christopher Reed(died 6/8/43) mother Ann Armstrong(family from Scotland?). Any help would be great.

I am looking for information on William Bainbridge born 1814 a miner by trade who's wife was Elizabeth and in 1851, according to the census had 6 children :- Edward 16yrs, Robert 13yrs, George 11yrs, John 8yrs, Joseph 3yrs, they also had a sister Ann(to William or Elizabeth) aged 23yrs. Any help on tracing Williams father and mother would be greatly appreciated.

I am interested in contacting descendants of JOHN CROSSMAN and GRACE ANN (Nee PEPPING) who moved to Ferryhill from Haverigg,Cumberland soon after 1900.John died in 1917 and in 1920 Grace married a John Edgar Johnson, she was 60 and he was 19.Childrenof John Crossman and Grace known to have been brought up in Ferryhill would have been Matilda who married William Baxter;Emma Louise who married John George Hiddlestone;Jonathan;Lillian who married Charles Foster; Bertha who married a Sedgewick andRedvers who married a Mary. Thomas Taylor m. Bertha Annie Coates 1901/2 - Ferryhill
Thomas Taylor and Bertha Annie Coates were my grandparents. I believe the surname Lister belonged to this Thomas Taylor's mother as his father James Taylor married a Jane Ann Lister on 20th October 1874 in Holy Innocents, at Tudhoe, Co. Durham. Jane Ann Lister b. June 1845 and James Taylor thought to have been born around 1850/51. Thomas Taylor and Bertha Annie Taylor lived for a time at no. 3 or 5 West Street, Ferryhill, Co. Durham, where my mother was born (Kitty Taylor). Does anyone know if Jane Ann Taylor (nee Lister) remarried to become a Westerman? A relative of my mother looked after a Grandma Westerman before marrying a Jack Carr (Olive and Jack Carr lived in Chester le Street when my mother was a child. She lived with them roughly from 1929/30 to 1932/33).

I have been looking for relatives, ancestors and descendants of James Taylor of Spennymoor who married JANE ANN LISTER on 20th Oct. 1874 at Holy Innocents, Tudhoe.Their son Thomas was my Grandfather. In 1871 James' mother, Catherine Taylor was an Innkeeper of the Bridge Inn at Whitworth near Spennymoor. James and Jane Taylor had several children:Catherine who married James Walker; Elizabeth(Bessie) who never married but went into business with George White; Rachael who married an Airey; Edith (Edie) who married George White (or Knight); Ann (Annie); Ernest who married a Maggie (Margaret?), and Thomas, my grandfather, who married Bertha Annie Coates on 26th June 1902 at Holy Innocents, Tudhoe. Jane Ann Taylor's brother, Thomas Lister, married Mary Jane Metcalfe on 21st May 1874 at Holy Innocents, Tudhoe. Her sister, Elizabeth Lister married George Rutherford on 9th February 1873 at Holy Innocents, Tudhoe. Their brother, Isaac Lister married Isabella Stott on 22nd December 1875, also at Holy Innocents, Tudhoe. A Lister relative of theirs was instrumental in getting a village school built, probably in Co. Durham somewhere in the mid to late 1800's. Are there still Listers with a connection to this family still living in the Ferryhill/ Spennymoor or surrounding areas?

I am trying to get in touch with any descendants of Lilian and Charley Foster.I understand that Lilian is buried at Ferryhill Station and so imagine she must have lived there prior to death.They had four children...John, Ernie, Charley and Grace but no dates are known. As Lilian(nee Crossman) was born in 1898 I would imagine these children would have been born in the 1920-1930 period and as far as I know they are now all dead. Did they have children? I am searching for information regarding my Grandfather, John George (Jack) Scott. He married my Grandmother Sarah Joyce and they had one child,a son,Alan (now deceased). Looking for info about Mount Oswald around 1914. It is the address given for my g-grandmother, Mary Monica Shorney on her marriage cert. She married Charles Curran, of Sniperley Hall in July 1914. I know Mount Oswald was the family home of Capt. John E Rogerson at the time, & he was a witness at their wedding in St.Godrics RC Chapel, Framwellgate, Durham.
