Minto Family - Edmundbyers
I would like further information about a Thomas Minto and his wife Ann Minto (nee Charlton). They were married in Edmondbyers in 1790 and had a daughter, Pheobe in 1793. Pheobe later married a Robert Crofton of Chester Le Street in 1812.

Doughty's of Yarm and Egglescliffe - Egglescliffe
I would be pleased to correspond with any one connected with the Doughty families. Have researched back to 1600's when they were men of the cloth in more recent times many were men of the trowel!!! A much harder life. Also my maternal line Easby of interest.

1881 census, Egglescliffe shows:- Peter Watson age 54 unemployed schoolmaster, b.Egglescliffe: Caroline Watson age 44 unemployed schoolmistress, b. Bombay: Charles, son age 21 unemployed b Neemuck India: Amy, dtr.,age 12 scholar, b.Low Worsall: Alfred, son age 10 scholar, b.Low Worsall: Edith dtr age 7 scholar, b. Egglescliffe: Ada dtr, age 5 scholar b. Egglescliffe: Lelia dtr age 2 b. Egglescliffe: Eva dtr age 3 days b. Egglescliffe. Peter described elsewhere as 'schoolmaster and astronomer of Byculla, India' Family also noted at Yarm, Sunderland Bridge, Tudhoe, Fighting Cocks and Darlington. Two daughters not on this census, Adela then 19, who died in Hunstanton. Emma then 15/16, not traced. Any details of this family much appreciated.

Looking for info about Mount Oswald around 1914. It is the address given for my g-grandmother, Mary Monica Shorney on her marriage cert. She married Charles Curran, of Sniperley Hall in July 1914. I know Mount Oswald was the family home of Capt. John E Rogerson at the time, & he was a witness at their wedding in St.Godrics RC Chapel, Framwellgate, Durham.

Thomas had an older sister Sarah (b abt 1854) Sarah married John BARWELL (b abt 1840). They married in Illinois, USA 1874. Thomas H CROSBY emmigrated to USA in 1872. From 1887 (maybe as early as 1882) until death in 1912 he was in Renton, King County,Washington, USA (near Seattle.) Thomas had a younger sister, Margaret B. CROSBY b abt 1869. She also emmigrated to USA.

Ralph Mason was born in 1899 in Gateshead and migrated to Australia with his family. His father, Thomas Donaldson Mason, is recorded as born in Fatfield in 1875. His mother Margaret Mason (nee White) was born in Willington Quay about the same year. They married in 1894. Thomas's father Willam Mason was born in Durham in the 1850s and his wife Elizabeth Mason (nee Donaldson) was born in Sunderland. The Durham connection seems extensive and if anyone can shed any light on these connections and their forebears I would be pleased to hear about it.

I have a great grandmother Maria Errington Blacklock (Blacklock spelled many ways)born in Biddick, Durham about 1861 (can't positively find the birth) and she married my g-grandfather Thomas Glendinning on August 4, 1879 in Southwick, Durham. She died in Ryhope, (Sunderland) May 2, 1915. The only thing I can find out about her parentage is that her father, James, was a witness at her wedding and was a "gardener" at Carley Place, Southwick.

I am just starting on my family tree and have already hit a brickwall. My grandfather, Henry Gardner Brown was born in the church district of St Oswald Newcastle on 19th Feb 1908 to Henry Gardner Brown(senior) & Kathleen. Henry jnr later married my grandmother Mary Blake on 17th Feb 1934 at the Methodist Church in Felling(Heworth). She was born Mary Elizabeth on 2nd October 1912 @ 19 Hill Street, Newcastle to Edward & Annie Blake (formerly Collinson).They lived at 88 Pretoria Street, Newcastle. Henry & Mary moved to the South in the late 30's early 40's seeking work. They eventually settled in Cranfield Bedfordshire. I would appreciate any info on either of my grandparents. Apparantly my grandmother was taken into the care of 'Banardo's'when she was young, were you there with her????? Pls Pls help.

Harriet Clark - Felling
Harriet married Edward Elliot Armstrong at St Alban's church, Heworth on 17 April 1911 at the age of 23. She lived on Hewitson Crescent, Felling. Her father, James, was a coal-miner. I have been unable to find a birth certificate relating to her although I understand she was born in Felling. Was there a home for unmarried mothers in Felling in the late 1800s as I wonder if she was adopted by James. Can anyone please help? I've been able to trace the Armstrong side back to 1760 but I've hit a brick wall here!
