Thomas Kellaway gave his birthplace as Abbotsbury, Dorchester when he joined the army in 1841 at 19, so born about 1822. I have his army career and some later census after retirement, but have been unable to find his roots in Dorset. He married a local girl, Mary, but I have no surname. Another Thomas Kellaway born same year goes right through census as a fisherman. If anyone is researching this family, knows of siblings, children, wife's family, I would be grateful to hear from them.

- Abbotsbury
Hello, I am trying to find out where Charles Churchill came from, and went to after the death of his wife. On the 1861 census Charles wife Amelia and 1yr old daughter Amelia are all give as birthplace unknown. Thought they would know where there daughter was born. A Amelia Churchill is buried at Abbotsbury 1863 aged 27yrs old. A John Churchill was born 1863 parents given as Charles and Amelia Churchill nee Hall. There is no record of a marriage to a Charles and Amelia Hall but there is one to a Amelia Park in 1859 reg Dorchester. On the 1871 census John Churchill is living with John and Mary Coleman and Hannah Park Mother-in-law. If anyone can help or is reseaching any of these names I would be pleased to hear from them.

Hand, John
- Affpuddle
John Hand born in Dorset, England mid 1870's, went to Cape Freels, Newfoundland around 1790. Died there 1824. Wife's name not known. Children: William born approx. 1798, John 1800, Mary 1805 & Silas 1813. My distant family continues to live in the Wesleyville area of NFLD and Toronto, Ontario. Hand changed to Hann around 1850. I found a John Hand born 1776) of Wm & Elizabeth (Betty or Betsy) (nee Symonds) Hand of Affpuddle, Dorset. John is the only child listed on the Latter Day Saints site, that doesn't have any death/burial info for this family. All of the other children have full info. This makes me believe that this John Hand could be the one. I think there isn't any death/burial info in England, because he left England and moved to Cape Freels, NFLD. I'm hoping this is my relative and the connection between England and Newfoundland. There is a James Spicknell of Cape Freels (1845) that came from Ringwood, Hampshire, England that married Mary Hand. If John Hand of Affpuddle is the link, than Mary (Hand) Spicknell, would be his granddaughter. My mother was a Hann at birth. St. Osmund, Melbury Osmond Church/Cemetery is mentioned often on the web for this particular Hand family. Other places in NFLD that Hand (Hanns) lived are: Cole Harbour & Greenspond, Bonne Bay, Pinchard's and Swain's Island. The men were builders (boat) and fishermen. So John could have come over on a fishing vessel. Cemetery records of Cape Freels shows their church would have been Church of England/Anglican or Methodist & Salvation Army.

Lost Legg?
- Beaminster
Job LEGG to be precise. My mother-in-law was Flossie LEGG who came from several generations of LEGGs who lived in Buriton, Hants. The name can be traced back to Job LEGG b c.1801 if the age on his death certificate is reliable. Only other informationfrom 1841 census is that he was born out of Hampshire. From IGI it seems that most Job LEGGs hail from Dorset, several in Beaminster, so is anyone missing him from their tree? Would also be interested to hear from anyone who has their Job LEGG as that would eliminate him from inquiries!
