Anyone descended from the PAY family from Torquay / St. Marychurch? Edwin Thomas PAY was born 1842. Married Thirza Freer Cornhill. Their children (surviving) were Henry ; Annie (married name HAWKE); Sarah Ann (married name FOXLOW) ; Frank ; Minnie(married name HANNAFORD); Gertrude(married name COYSH).

HAWKE / PAY families of St. Marychurch / Babbacombe - Torquay
Anyone connected to Frank & Annie HAWKE of St. Marychurch? Only daughter I know of was Harriet Minnie Louisa HAWKE born 1899. A son, Frank, I believe died in World War One. Other children I believe are from this family (but not certain) are Edwin, 1902 ; Francis Richard, 1904 ; Marjorie Helen, 1906 ; William Henry, 1908. I have a double-connection to the family. Annie's maiden name was PAY. I am descended from her sister Minnie. Frank Hawke Sr. is also related, to my great-grandfather. Loads of information if anyone is connected.

Winnifred Foxlow was born about 1897 in Torquay. Father was William (born around 1872 in Evesham, Worcs.) and mother was Sarah (nee PAY). They lived in Hele around 1919. Anybody related ? Unusual surname so if you share it (especially in Devon) you are proably related.

I am trying to trace my fathers family history. Looking for information on John Francis and Mary Harvey who had a son Robert born 7 November 1855 and baptised at Saint Mary le Strand on 13 January 1856 by Joshua Frederick Denham, have copy of Parish entry for baptisimal register. Also looking for John Francis Harvey married to Sophia of Earlham Saint MaryChurch Torquay Devon. Children were Jane Nind, Robert Harvey, Francis John Harvey & Emily Mary Harvey. Have copy of his last will and also copy of accounts annexed to probate affidavit dated March 1895 prepared by GK Wright London. All dates and names are accurate as they are original documents.

Dr Charles Nankivell M.D. lived at worked in Tormorham ?? in or near Torquay. His practice was at Layton House, Abbey Road where he died in 1886. His wife was Margaret Atkinson. Does anyone know of this place? Has anyone ever noticed monumental inscriptions or gravestones in any church in Torquay. Dr Nankivell was in practice there for many years Help much appreciated.

Totnes Union - White - 1850 - p 507 The total average annual expenditure on the poor during the 3 years preceeding the formation of the Union, was £13,879. The expenditure of the Union in 1838 was £11,893; & in 1840, £13,183. The Workhouse is a large stone building, erected in 1838/9, at the cost of about £6000 & has room for 380 paupers. W F Windeatt Esq is the union clerk & supt.registrar; Rev F H Hele, chaplain; Mr Richard & Mrs Martyn, master & matronof the Workhouse; & Thomas Irish & Samuel Randle are the relieving officers.

My Gt,Gt Grandfather Thomas Shapter Perring, their son, was born 20/8/1811married Elizabeth Preston in 1830 and their daughter Mary Shapter Perring was born on 27/6/1838 at 4, Warlands, Totnes. Trying to find out about the Williams-Hodges family from Totnes. Henry was a clockmaker, and his daughter (Elizabeth) married my g g grandfather William Hobbs in Newton Abbott in Aug 1862.
