I am writing on behalf of my uncle as he is looking to track the family of his long lost friend Desmond Moyse. My uncle is known by the name Ahmad Perak working together with Desmond as shipwright chargemen in Chip Constructor Department in Naval Base Singapore. He has been to Desmond's house several times in Singapore before he moved back to the UK. Desmond was married to Barbara and David & Christophers are their sons. David has a daughter called Emma. . Desmond's last address was 26 Dolphin Square, Devonport. From my search, I have found out that Desmond and David had passed away. David died in 2006 at the age of 48(in South Africa I think). O'Brien family in Plymouth - Plymouth
My grgreat-aunt Phoebe Cullen born 1872 in Ramsgate Kent married Fred Elliston in 1891 and was widowed sometime after 1901. She has been hard to find but I have at last located her in Plymouth 191 where she married widower WILLIAM O'BRIEN a coxwain on a steamboat in the dockyard ex navy. Phoebe was 47 when she married and William 57 a widower. Phoebe died age 85 in Freedom Fieldfs Hospital in February 1958. The informant of her death was stepson also William O'Brien. I am hoping there are descendants of this family who can tell me about Phoebe and maybe have photos. Thankyou

Parsons-Father and Grandfather - Plymouth
My wife's Grandfather Charles Henry Parsons born 1856 and died 1931 lived in Kingsands until sometime after 1901 then in Cecil Street, Plymouth. He was a shipwright by trade and according to 1911 census worked in a 'private yard'. My wife's father was born 1894 and died in 1960, like his father he lived in Kingsands then Plymouth. He served a shipwright apprenticeship (in a private yard) presumably with his father. He served throughout WW1 as a stretcher bearer, upon return from the war he could not get a job in Plymouth once again following his father to Portsmouth for work. He married and worked in various jobs before he was able to enter Portsmouth Dockyard as a shipwright and stayed there until his death. We would like to know where in Plymouth they worked as shipwrights and apprenticeships served. Can anyone help please.

Christopher Ayre married Mary Bigsty in St John Newfoundland and their daughter Margaret Ayre went on to marry William MacKenzie Skues MD. Christopher Ayre was Secretary to the Governor of Newfoundland and had a nephew called William Gordon James Ayre. Mabel Isaac - Plymouth
I am looking for any information regarding Mabel Isaac who, aged 13 years and orphand, was an inmate at the Devon and Cornwall Female Orphans Asylum in Lockyer Street, Plymouth, according to the 1911 Census. Thereafter, I can find no record whatever either a Marriage, Death, or any other information. She just seems to have disappeared completely; The Asylum was destroyed during WW11 together, it seems, with all records. Any information will be very much appreciated.

Help!!!! Information urgently sought on JOHN WILLIAM PARSONS who married FLORENCE MABEL COOK in the Plymouth area in either 1904 or 1909. They had 5 children: BERTRAM SEFTON KELLO PARSONS born 1913 died 1978/9: JOHN(Jack)PARSONS, killed in cycle accident aged 21 yrs: REGINALD PARSONS: MABEL PARSONS, who married a Jack Hocking & had a daughter Jaqueline: & IRENE PARSONS. FLORENCE MABEL COOK was was thought to have been born in Swindon, but not known if in Wiltshire or Glouc. Her parents ran a jewllers shop in Swindon. She was killed along with her 2nd husband(name unknown) and their daughter Jaqueline by a direct hit on a Bomb Shelter they were in, in the Plymouth/Davenport area during WW11. JOHN WILLIAM PARSONS was a Quarter Master Sgt. in the R.G.A.(?) and was thought to be employed as a Commercial Clerk after his discharge. He "disappeared" when Florence was pregnant with their last child, Irene.

Am trying to find other family members of the name Burd (which is often incorrectly spelled Bird) living in the Plymouth area from the 1700s onwards. Particular interest is the family of Mark Burd (c1763-1833, who married Grace Richards in 1796) and their son, also Mark (1807-c1850, who married Elizabeth Luckraft in 1829). Would also be interested in Burds in the same area during the 20th century.

Plympton St Mary Union - White - 1850 - p 551 comprises 19 parishes. The total average annual expenditure during the 3 years preceding the formation of the Union, was £8952. In 1838 their expenditure was £7066; & in 1840, £8206. The Union Workhouse, at Underwood, near Plympton St Mary, is a large substantial building, with room for more than 200 inmates. Harry Bulted Harris Esq is chairman, & J B Yonge & Henry Rivers are vice-chairmen of the Board of Guardians, who meet every Friday. Mr Nicholas Lockyer, of Plymouth, is union clerk & supt.registrar; & Mr Thomas Southwood, of Underwood, is relieving officer for the whole Union. P 556: An old almshouse was sold in 1810 for £163, which was expended in erecting 5 rooms adjoining the old parish house.

I am researching my family and find that they come from Plymtree. After visiting for the day and looking around the graveyard, I am astounded to see so many! I really want to know what happened to all of their offspring. Also, of the links to Gittisham, where the original Prouse's came from (Robert Prouse 1779-1844) and whose gravestone is in Gittisham churchyard.
