looking for great grandmother from Shaldon
- Shaldon
Hi, I'm looking for information on my maternal grandfather's family. His mother was Jannie, according to the 1891 UK census and she married a William James Winsor who was from Ipplepen-Devon. They had most of their children born in Suffolk, Kessingland. One of their children was my grandfather, Archibald Alfred Richard Winsor. He came to Canada sometime prior to 1912 where he met and married my grandmother, Nellie Earle. If anyone knows of this family, I'd LOVE to hear from you! At the time of the 1891 census the family was living at Newton-Abbot, Devon.

John Hayes Coastguard
- Shaldon
Hi I am researching John Hayes who live in Little Bicton Place from abt 1841. He was Married to Margaret and according to the I.G.I they were born & married about 1833 in Little Bicton, but according to the censuses (1841-1891) they both came from Ireland(no county given. The family moved to Shaldon and live at Riverside. Between 1852-61 the family moved to Hoose, (Now Hoylake, Wirral). They had 7 children John, James, William, Margaret, Ellen, Mary & Catherine all born between 1837-1852. When the family moved to Wirral the three boys stayed (I presume as their names do not appear in 1861 with their parents only the girls. I may have found William's marriage to a Ada Jennetta Carr in East Stonehouse in 1870 which I have not confirmed. William's occupation is given as mariner, no sign of John or James. Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

My probable ancestors held Sheepwash, or parts of it, in the 13th & 14th centuries. Their arms were Gules, a chevron between three roundels argent. Curiously, Elinor then turned Sheepwash over to Thomas' wife for the term of her life. The lands eventually passed to the Holland family.

Snell Family in Shute, Devon
- Shute
I am interested in hearing from anyone with information about the Snell family in Shute.
My GG grandmother, Amelia Snell (b. Circa 1818 in Shute, Devon), married Edward Hoare (b. circa 1810 at Musbury, Devon) on 23 Mar 1837 in Colyton, Devon.
It appears that Amelia had a brother Simeon and possibly sisters Sophia Ann and Ann.
Simeon married Mary Pavey (of colyford, Devon)in 1847 and they had sons, Robert and John Charles.
Sophia Ann was a witness at Edward and Amelia Hoare's wedding and married James Batstone, in Devon, in 1840. They had daughters, Ann, Mary (married George R Crichard), and Emma (married John Pearce).
Ann Snell married William Smith, of Colyford, Devon. They had a son, John (b. circa 1828).
If you have any of these people in your family tree, I would be interested to hear from you.
