MONK FAMILY OF PETROCKSTOW Would like to find out more about the MONK Family of Petrockstow, Devonshire, England. Elizabeth MONK, date of birth unknown. married Nicholas YEO, b. abt. 1481 in Heanton Sachville Park, Petrockstow, in the year of 1515 in Hartland. The had three known children – Robert YEO, b. abt. 1510; Nicholas YEO, b. abt. 1520, and John YEO, b. abt. 1525. Elizabeth MONK YEO had at least one brother, Humphrey MONCKE, who m. Mary CHAMPERNOWN, b. 1468 in Insworth, Devon, ENGLAND. They had two known children – Anthoney MONCKE and Robert MONK. Humphrey MONCKE and Elizabeth MONK where the children of John MONCKE and Elizabeth GRANT.

Is anyone interested in the Bissett family of Petrockstow, Devon? My mum is a Bissett but she was born in Abergavenny, Wales. My Bissett's from Petrockstow start with my Great Grandfather, who although born in Torrington grew up in Petrockstow, his name was William Henry Bissett 1877 Great Torrington Union Workhouse, he was the illegitimate son of Elizabeth Ann Bissett 1859 Petrockstow. Her parents were William Bissett 1833 and Elizabeth Sanders 1831 both born Petrockstow. She had five siblings, Mary Jane 1860, Susan 1861, John 1863, George 1866 and Sarah 1868. Williams parents were from Hatherleigh, I have traced this line back as far as 1670 with Richard Bissett born in Hatherleigh. I would love to hear from anyone with links to this Bissett family or links with the Bissetts of Hatherleigh. Kate.
