William Lee, tailor
- Membury
William Lee was born around 1784, married Hannah Gardener in Membury 1808, widowed 1816, remarried to Thomasine Chamberlain, died in Membury 1840. No baptism record exists at Membury. Other clues: the family profession of tailors, his first son's name John, village muster roll of 1803 that shows a "William Lee Jr" living in a house with a John Lee and (?next door) to a family headed by a William Lee with an elderly Liddy Lee = Lydia, a name passed down to William's children.
Has anybody seen a baptism for William Lee, or have any other clues who his parents were? In general, I'd also like to hear from anybody who is researching the Lee family of Membury, Chard, or Somerton.

Harris in Membury
- Membury
Would appreciate anything on Harris family from late 1700s who lived around the Membury area, with link to an early marriage of Richard Harris to Joan - ? They had a daughter Jane born about 1789 and son Thomas 1791.
Joan died soon after having Thomas and Richard then married Sarah Giles around 1796. They had children John born about 1798, and Richard about 1800 both boys born in Chard but only John was baptised there. In 1801 the family returned to Membury,Devon where Richard and Sarah had more children, and remained there.

Kerswill
- Modbury
My inlaws, Kerswill, came from Devon, where at one time their family owned Modbury, Hach, and a few other places. My father-in-law, Frederick Ernest Kerswill, a second son, was born in Plymouth in 1910. The family owned a cottage in Modbury, and his grandfather drove a coach with a modified version of the coat of arms on the door - the label on this 'new issue' of the arms had red vertical stripes on the 'label' across the top third of the arms.
