Kingdon / Snow similarities
- Knowstone
Over the past year I couldn't help but notice that Kingdons and Snows shared close proximity in North Devon as do they here in Canada. In fact I am now living within two miles of a Kingdon who attended school with a Snow cousin here. It seems quite a coincidence and we may find a tie in the families yet due to sharing neighborhoods. Send a note perhaps we may be able to help each other.

Vigars Family
- Lamerton
I am researching the history of the Vigars family. All so far discovered throughout the world who bear the name, spelt in exactly the same way, are descended from a family that lived at North Brentor from at least the 1500s until 1900s. Until 1880 this village was in the Parish of Lamerton. It was cut off from the main part of the parish by Brentor Parish and was known as "Without Down". The earliest ancestor so far discovered is a John Figures who was baptizing his children from 1612-1622 at Lamerton Church. A William Vigars, my 5 x Great-grandfather, was Churchwarden of Lamerton in 1751. In the 1780s the family were tenant farmers at a farm now called Bonnafords (then Burnafords) and another sometimes called Windsors after it's owner, both in North Brentor. The tenancy of the latter remained with Arthur Vigars, son of William until 1816. My 2 x Great-grandfather Richard Vigars opened the Sportsmans Pub at Heathfield, now called Acorn Cottage, and his gravestone is adjacent tothe porch of Lamerton Church. Tony Vigars

Ellis Family Lamerton,
- Lamerton
I am searching for information regarding the line of Samuel Ellis and Hannah Burridge. Samuel was born 01/03/19 . I have birth and death information on him but have worked to find the whereabouts of his children. So far, I have found Thomas, William, Harry, Richard and Mary.
The two remaining are my brick wall. They are
George Ellis b. 08-26-1869
Last time I find him is on a ship to United States in 1890 when his mother and sister came to Alabama to live with four of the brothers who were already here. George did not stay in Alabama. I dont know whether he returned to England or not but an elderly aunt says that he may have become a Methodist Minister in England.
The other is John Ellis b.1849. I have nothing on him past the 1871 census. Both of these guys were born in Lamerton. The family moved for a time to Cornwall (by 1881). Samuel died in 1883.
I know nothing further.
Thanks for any help or connection!
