Mason
- Ideford
I have a newspaper cutting about a woman called Mason (no first name) who was found dead by the Postman in Ideford. She was 70 years old, it was found in my Grandad's box and we do not know who she is or why he kept it. He pasted it onto card, so he obviously wanted to keep it for a while.
The only Mason I can find is a Mary Mason born Morice Town (the same place as my Grandad) in the 1901 Census she was born c1838 and married to George Mason from Oxfordshire a Hawker. If anyone can shed any light on this I would be grateful.
I have traced my Family Tree back to Chudleigh (Nr Ideford) so she could be a relative.

fry blackmore
- Ilfracombe
I am interested in any information about the Marriages between the Fry's and Blackmore's in the north Devon area.
We know that Wesleyan's kept the brides surname in front of the grooms after marriage and then used it as a given name in later generations. Does anyone know of a way to put this into the seach engines?
Score cemetery has anumber of headstones FRY BARNS;BARNS FRY; BLACKMORE FRY; FRY BLACKMORE; . there is an oral (unsubstantiated)claim that the there is a distant conection to R.D.Blackmore. Fanciful banter or is there something in it?

CAVENETT
- Instow
John CAVENETT b.c. 1808 married Eliza SLUMAN of Westleigh on 7 April 1828 at Instow. He was an agricultural labourer at surrounding farms. They had :-
Henry bapt. 1 Feb. 1829 (my great grandfather)
Stephen bapt. 27 May 1831 bur. 29 May 1831
Mary Anne bapt. 22 Apr 1832
Eliza bapt. 23 Nov. 1834
Frances bapt. 29 Jan. 1837 bur. 16 Feb. 1837
John bapt. 18 Feb. 1838 .....all at Instow.
John & Eliza applied for Free Passage to South Australia on 22 Apr. 1840, their application No. being 8186. The accounts for ouitfitting the family with clothing and conveying them to Plymouth are extant in the Records of the Overseers of the Poor for Instow. They departed for South Australia aboard the "Brightman" 25 Aug. 1840. During the voyage, Eliza and her dauighter Mary Anne died and were buried at sea.
The story of John and his 3 children's arrival and life in South Australia is told in my book "The CAVENETT Family in Australia 1840-1970", copies of which are in the Devon Record Office, the Society of Genealogists' Library, London and various Australian libraries. In addition I donated a copy to the Library of the Genealogical Society of Utah, Salt Lake City.
My QUEST for the past 40 years has been to discover from where John CAVENETT came to Instow, his origin and ancestry. It is indeed an extremely rare surname.
