John Kingdon born circa 1807 Meshaw married Elizabeth Naish at Chawleigh 15th May 1837. They had at least four children born in Kings Nympton, William baptised 1839, Richard baptised 1843, Ann baptised 1845, Eliza 1847 and one other child, Susanna born in Chawleigh circa 1850. If anyone is researching this family I would be very pleased to hear from them.

The total average annual expenditure on the poor during the 3 years preceding the formation of the Union, was £9069, but in 1838, it was £9118; in 1839,£10,170; &in 1849,£12,087. The Union Workhouse stands on the north side of the town, in Churchstow parish, & was built in 1837, at the cost of about £6000. It has room for 350 paupers, & Mr T C & Mrs Geyle are the master & matron; MrThomas Harris snr, is the union clerk & supt.registrar; & the Rev T L Hill, MA, chaplain.

I'm interested in finding more info about my husband's ancestor John Bulley of Kingskerswell. He was born the son of Thomas and Mary Bulley in 1707 in Kingskerswell. He married in 1731 Margaret Codnor and about 1750 established a shipping company based in St John's, Newfoundland. His son Samuel born in about 1737 continued the shipping to Newfoundland and went into partnership with his son-in-law John Job whose family were also from this area of Devon. Any info on any of these and their descendents gratefully received
