Dening, Denning or Dinning - Axminster
I have recently found a marriage between one of my Hoskins ancestors (Caroline, from Chard) and a Henry Denning, in 1843. I am trying to find out whether there is any link between this Henry Denning and the family who were part of/ancestors of the well-known Dening's of Chard Agricultural Engineers. So far, I cannot find anything in records going back to the early 1800's but wonder whether there are any "common points" further back in time. My Henry Dening's origins seem a little vague; one census states his birthplace as Chard, while another says Marshwood, Dorset. His likely place of christening is Whitchurch Canonicorum, Dorset. There is a possibility that his parents were from Axminster. Their names are Henry (or Henery) Denning and (probably) Ann. Charles Dening (of the Dening Company) did have an ironmonger's branch in Charmouth (as well as Chard), which is not far from Whitchurch C, and Axminster is relatively close; so I am hopeful of a "join" somewhere further back in time. If anyone has researched any Denning/Dening/Dinning lines in these areas, I would be interested.
