In 1927 Albert Edward Davies married Florence Elizabeth PARSONS, at that time she lived at 45 WILLEY’S AVENUE, St THOMAS, EXETER. They had a daughter Sylvia Irene born May 1928, at that time they were living at GREEN TREE, BROAD CLYST. The birth certificate says Sylvia Irene was adopted. I would like to find Sylvia and any information about her, and her mother Florence Elizabeth. I really do need your help as the cost of trying to access the adoption records through an agency is beyond my means. Apart from her first illigitimate Daughter (Ellen) George and Emma went on to have more children, Walter John and Emily. charles helmore - Exeter
Charles Helmore lived in Exeter, married Mary Ann Pring Pyne at All Hallows, Goldsmith Street in 1833. He died in 1840, leaving a widow and young son Thomas Pyne Helmore. Looking for info on William Bradford and his wife Sarah whose surname is either Linton or Ford. William was born according to the census's in Exeter circa 1815. I have a marriage cert to a Sarah Linton at St Martins in the Fields London to a Sarah Linton. the dates and occupations all tie in but the birth certs for William and Sarahs children all state mothers maiden name as Ford. Also the 1851 census has a daughter Selina born 1830 in Somerset which would have made William and Sarah very young when she was born (not impossible I know) I have been unable to discover Selina after the 1851 census either as getting married or having died. Devon County Pauper Lunatic Asylum - Exminster
Exminster - White - 1850 - p 406 Devon County Pauper Lunatic Asylum is an extensive & handsome building, pleasantly situated about 3.5 miles south of Exeter. The first stone was laid June 27, 1842, & the building was finished in 1845, at thecost of about £60,000, including the sum paid for the 24A of land, now tastefully laid out in gardens, lawns, yards etc. The house has accommodations for 400 patients; & the wards, galleries & apartments are spacious, airy & well ventilated. The centre building comprises the dispensary & the residences of the supt., matron etc. Around these, are encircled & connected with corridors, the sick & day rooms of the patients, & other necessary apartments for the attendants. From this circle radiate 6 wards, comprising the bedrooms of the inmates. On the ground floor is a neat chapel; & the open spaces between the wards are appropriated as airing grounds for the patients. This large house of refuge for those afflicted with the worst of maladies, is under the control of the county magistrates & T E Drake Esq, of Exeter, is the secretary.
