Cotton/Cotten's of Devon - Exeter
Elizabeth Cotton born 1828 in Exeter,Devon was the daughter of Thomas Cotton. (IGI lists the surname as Cotten). Elizabeth's siblings were Harriet, Charles and George. Elizabeth married William Brooks in 1846, and they moved to London. Am trying to research further back, will be happy to share my tree.

Bignell Exeter or Lambeth - Exeter
Looking for info on the Bignells who started life in Exeter and then moved to London. William born 17th August 1796 married Mary Ann would imagine about 1818/19 they had a daughter Mary Ann born in Exeter in 1820 ,a son William born 1822 and my great grandmother Eliza who was born in London and christened St Andrews Holborn in 1824 ,there are more children from this marriage.William 1796 was a joiner/carpenter and when in London they lived Orsett St Lambeth . William 1796 was the son of William Bignell born say 1767 married Agnes nee Randall/Randle/Rendall at St Davids Exeter . It is said within the family that the Lectern in Lyme Regis church was carved by members of the Bignell family .The Dorset Archivist could not confirm this as he had no record of who had been paid for the carving . Henry Seymour, Catherine Standish - Exeter
My great-grandfather, Henry Seymour, states that he was born in Exeter (c 1836) in all the census from 1871 onwards. In these he was living in Liverpool. He was variously a mariner and a rigger. Hoewever I cannot find him in the 1841, '51, or '61 censuses. I can accept that he was at sea in 1861, and maybe even in 1851, but where was he in 1841 at the age of 5 or thereabouts? Henry married Catherine Standish in Liverpool in 1862. She was the daughter of William Standish (b c1811 in Wigan) and Elizabeth (b c1809 Wigan). Catherine and her brother Thomas were born in Salford according to the 1851 census. This, however, is the only sighting I have of her family

Thomas Cole married Louisa Ayre June 1838 Exeter Devon. Their children were Catherine Cole b 1849 Eneicks, George John Cole b 1841 Exeter Devon, Louisa Amelia Cole b 1846 Ireland, Rose Emma Cole b 1834 England, Sarah Jane Cole b 1848 Ireland, 1851 Census he and his family were residing in Alderney, 1861 Census shows three more children Authur T Cole b 1853 Alderney, Charles Cole b 1861 Alverstoke Hampshire, Mary Ann Cole b 1854 Alderney. 1881 Census Thomas was residing Camberwell Londdon with his wife Louisa and younger daughters Mary Ann and Emma. Thomas died 1884, CAmberwell, London Surrey.

Brutton family - Exeter
Trying to find out about Brutton family living at 2 Friars Gate, St. Sidwell, Exeter in 1851. Margaret, a widow, had a son, Joseph, who became a brewer in Yeovil and a daughter, Laura, born c.1836 who was mt Gt grandmother, plus 6 other children.Also living with them was Margaret's mother-in-law Martha aged 88, who was married to a Robert Brutton.Laura died young but Joseph had at least 12 children so there must be some descendants out there.

my Gt X 3 Grandmother was Elizabeth Penny Tothill who was born, I think, in Exeter in around 1798. I haven't been able to trace her parents. She married Samuel Martin from Dawlish around 1825 and they lived in Exeter. I know little of her life and would love to make contact with anyone who has connections with the family.

Looking for info on James& Sarah Abbott & their son George & any other children. Believed to have married at Saint Sidwells on 29 Aug 1771. Their son George was supposed to be born Exeter, 18 Feb 1794. George married Sarah Bilney at Huntingfield, Suffolk on 16 Mar 1818. He was an architect & worked for 22 years in the employ of Mr. Robert Cornish and his father, architects and surveyors, of Exeter, and was also engaged for some years in the establishment of the well-known Mr. Cubitt. He came to South Australia with some of his children in 1849. At least two of George's many children were born in Exeter. George Lewsby Abbott in 1825 & Robert Bilney Abbott in 1828.Any info would be great, Rose.

Louisa Richardson, nee Lloyd - Exeter
Louisa Richardson, nee Lloyd, born Lea, Staffs, 1850, married a William Richardson. The marriage appears to have lasted less than ten years, but it is known they spent time in Exeter. In 1871 her daughter Amelia is shown living with a wet nurse, but the whereabouts of William or Louisa are unknown. Louise later had a daughter, Gertrude, brought up as Gertrude Richardson, then Gertrude Clegg, then Gertrude Prossor, before marrying a Harry Phillips in Manchester in the late 1890s.
