Thomas Cole married Louisa Ayre June 1838 Exeter Devon. Their children were Catherine Cole b 1849 Eneicks, George John Cole b 1841 Exeter Devon, Louisa Amelia Cole b 1846 Ireland, Rose Emma Cole b 1834 England, Sarah Jane Cole b 1848 Ireland, 1851 Census he and his family were residing in Alderney, 1861 Census shows three more children Authur T Cole b 1853 Alderney, Charles Cole b 1861 Alverstoke Hampshire, Mary Ann Cole b 1854 Alderney. 1881 Census Thomas was residing Camberwell Londdon with his wife Louisa and younger daughters Mary Ann and Emma. Thomas died 1884, CAmberwell, London Surrey.

Brutton family - Exeter
Trying to find out about Brutton family living at 2 Friars Gate, St. Sidwell, Exeter in 1851. Margaret, a widow, had a son, Joseph, who became a brewer in Yeovil and a daughter, Laura, born c.1836 who was mt Gt grandmother, plus 6 other children.Also living with them was Margaret's mother-in-law Martha aged 88, who was married to a Robert Brutton.Laura died young but Joseph had at least 12 children so there must be some descendants out there.

Tothill / Martin - Exeter
my Gt X 3 Grandmother was Elizabeth Penny Tothill who was born, I think, in Exeter in around 1798. I haven't been able to trace her parents. She married Samuel Martin from Dawlish around 1825 and they lived in Exeter. I know little of her life and would love to make contact with anyone who has connections with the family.

Thomas Brown Johnston (from Lockerbie) m. Eliza Palmer in 1830 at St Thomas Exeter. Then his brother John Sanders Johnston m. Ann Palmer in 1832 at St Thomas's. John & family migrated to Australia but can find no trace of Thomas & Eliza and family after the 1851 Census.

William Davey b 1795 St Davids - Exeter
Does anyone have any information of my Ancestors grandparents. His mother was a Mary Davey b circa 1769 and her father was a William and mother Mary only we do not know in what village or town they originated. The whole of our family have hit this brick wall. Looking for info on James& Sarah Abbott & their son George & any other children. Believed to have married at Saint Sidwells on 29 Aug 1771. Their son George was supposed to be born Exeter, 18 Feb 1794. George married Sarah Bilney at Huntingfield, Suffolk on 16 Mar 1818. He was an architect & worked for 22 years in the employ of Mr. Robert Cornish and his father, architects and surveyors, of Exeter, and was also engaged for some years in the establishment of the well-known Mr. Cubitt. He came to South Australia with some of his children in 1849. At least two of George's many children were born in Exeter. George Lewsby Abbott in 1825 & Robert Bilney Abbott in 1828.Any info would be great, Rose.

William Chesterman b. abt 1770 in Exeter, was a builder in St Sidwells, Exeter. Married to Ann b. 1776, who after Williams death in 1828 married John Hewett. William & Ann's Son James b. 1804 and daughter Lucy b. 1799. Lucy's husband George Warren b. 1803. I would be interested to know if anyone has any connections with the above. Williams Mother Mary Chesterman remarried and surname became Heard. She also lived in Exeter.

Louisa Richardson, nee Lloyd - Exeter
Louisa Richardson, nee Lloyd, born Lea, Staffs, 1850, married a William Richardson. The marriage appears to have lasted less than ten years, but it is known they spent time in Exeter. In 1871 her daughter Amelia is shown living with a wet nurse, but the whereabouts of William or Louisa are unknown. Louise later had a daughter, Gertrude, brought up as Gertrude Richardson, then Gertrude Clegg, then Gertrude Prossor, before marrying a Harry Phillips in Manchester in the late 1890s.

I am trying to contact living relations as I know that Elizabeth and Edward Evans, married, had 4 children 2 girls,Grace Emma, Eleanor Louise, 2 boys, Edward and George, Elizabeth died 1885/1886, quite possibly when last baby born. Eager to make contact with family as I am TUCKER relation. Looking forward to reply.

Devon County Pauper Lunatic Asylum - Exminster
Exminster - White - 1850 - p 406 Devon County Pauper Lunatic Asylum is an extensive & handsome building, pleasantly situated about 3.5 miles south of Exeter. The first stone was laid June 27, 1842, & the building was finished in 1845, at thecost of about £60,000, including the sum paid for the 24A of land, now tastefully laid out in gardens, lawns, yards etc. The house has accommodations for 400 patients; & the wards, galleries & apartments are spacious, airy & well ventilated. The centre building comprises the dispensary & the residences of the supt., matron etc. Around these, are encircled & connected with corridors, the sick & day rooms of the patients, & other necessary apartments for the attendants. From this circle radiate 6 wards, comprising the bedrooms of the inmates. On the ground floor is a neat chapel; & the open spaces between the wards are appropriated as airing grounds for the patients. This large house of refuge for those afflicted with the worst of maladies, is under the control of the county magistrates & T E Drake Esq, of Exeter, is the secretary.
