on the 1901 census my great-nan was annie jewel, she married a william blackmore. annie is listed as being born in devonport in 1867, talking to my nan (annie's grandaughter) she had a brother called jack. dont know of any other brothers or sisters. any info on annie would really help me to try and do my family tree. jack doesn't come up on 1901 census, so assume he may have been born later, info off my nan is :- he became an admiral and went down with his ship, an uncle heard he was killed at the battle of jutland 1914-1918. not sure which is right, if any. there was a picture of him in his admiral uniform in my nan's mothers house but when she passed away she doesn't know who had it. any help would be grateful. thanks in advance. allison

CLAVIS CLARVIS CLERVIS ETC.
- Devonport
Interested in information from anyone with this surname in their tree. My ancestor THOMAS CLAVIS born about 1765 appears here in 1841 census, occupation bosun RN, but not local born.
Rare surname except in Lincolnshire, where it appears as Clarvis or Clervis, and likely that is his place of origin.
One of his sons, William, moved up to Lancashire and I know there is a Clavis line in the West Derby district, but he had other children who stayed in Devon I think, and I would be interested to hear of any descendants of theirs.
