The 1881 British Census for Hampden House Acadamy lists the following names which I am researching. Frederick Curtice,age 11 born Japan Yokohama.Edwin Curtice,age 8 born Japan Yokohama,Adela Marion Curtice,age 13 born Japan Yokohama,Mabel Grace Curtice,age 7 born Southampton,Hampshire.I believe the spelling of the name should be Curtis.Frederick is my Grandfather and Edwin is his brother.The two girls I believe are related but I have no hard evidence to support this.Would be interested to hear from anyone regards this matter. Adela Marion Curtis appears in the 1901 Census living at 13 King Street Kensington ,Profession Writer,Bookseller,born Japan Yokohama.Also in the 1901 Census living at Wetherby Mansions Earlscourt is Charlotte N Curtis,age 13, School Girl born,Yokohama Japan.All are recorded as British Subjects.

I have info re: John Putt, born 2/2/1822. His father was Richard Putt born c1795, died 1/2/1881, who, c1815 married John's mother, Elizabeth Cook. Richards parents were Richard Putt and Ann Gloyn(e)(s), though I have no dates or further info. If anyone can help with these latest Putt couples, and/or anything prior, I would be most grateful.

Axminster Union - White - 1850 - p 356/7 comprises 17 parishes. The total average annual expenditure of the 17 parishes for the support of their poor during the 3 years preceding the formation of the Union was £10,218; during the 3 years ending1840 £9058; & during the succeeding 3 years, £10,029. Their total expenditure for the year ended Lady Day, 1849, was £14,669, including £1297 paid to the county rates, £924 for salaries, & about £90 paid for registration & vaccination fees. The Workhouse, at Axminster, was built in 1836, at the cost of £7000, but it has since been altered & enlarged, at the cost of £2500. It has room for 450 paupers, but seldom has more than 300 inmates. 10surgeons are employed by the Union & the other principal officers are Charles Bond Esq, Union clerk & supt.registrar; Rev Z J Edwards, chaplain; William & Mrs Gomm, master & matron of the Workhouse.

Boon,Jefford - Axminster
Any information on James Boon & Alice Jefford who lived in Axminster from 1870+ James owned a Wool Stapler & Mill and employed about 30 people. He had two families, one with Susan, and at the same time had a family with Alice Jefford who he later married after his first wife's death. I would love to know more about them.

R.H.J. (Joe) Ingham - Axminster
I have a photograph dated July 1949 of R.H.J. with his wife Violet and a Nono Ingham. At the moment I do not know where they fit in my Ingham tree. From correspondence to my mother I know that they lived at Hilary, Axminster and that Violet died c1955. In my tree I have a Richard P Hayes Ingham of Dublin who married Julia M.
