FURSDON, John & Elizabeth - Burrington
John was 61 and a blacksmith in 1851 census and wife Eliz was 53. Four chlrn at home: Mary Ann (28), Thomas (18), Priscilla (15) and Elizabeth Turner (28) along with her son, Thomas (3). Her husband (James Turner) had already left for America. Can anyone tell me more about this Fursdon family? I know that Mary Ann emigrated and married John Rowe, Priscilla emigrated and married John Graham and brother James Fursdon lived with the Rowe's in America. I found a record online where a JOHN FURSDON married an ELIZABETH WARREN on July 18, 1819, in Burrington. Is this my John & Elizabeth? Who were their parents? In the 1930's Frederick F Cheesbrough was sent by Dr Barnado in Durham to a farm in the Burrington area. We think the farm may have been Upcott Farm. Fred stayed on the farm until he was called up into the army in WW2.Does anyone remember him? Is the farm still there? We think he went to a wedding 23 April 1940 at St George's Church , George Nympton, between Eva Rottenbury and Mr Elworthy, they may have had a daughter named Ruby later on.We are Fred's family and just wondered about this period of his life, where he grew from a child into a young man.

Their son James married Mary Wallis from Dorset in 1816 in Cheriton Fitpaine. The family branched off around the area and some came to London, later moving to Dunmow, Essex, and from there to Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.
