John Lucraft was the village cooper and rented thatched cottages in the New Buildings. When they burned down he was broken by the cost of re-instating them before ending the lease back to the Acklands.

Brownston
- Brownston
We are a family of 'Brownstons' whose originate from the hamlet (?) of Brownston. Ownership of title passed to the sons of the family - and there were few of them. There were many daughters.
My father - a Brownston and now aged 91, tells me that in the 18th century the family left Brownston and went to run cotton mills in Huddersfield.
I can remember, as a child, visiting Brownston with my parents. My mother had to leave a note written in her lipstick to this family - who were out at the time we called.
I would love to find out something of our ancestry. Does anyone know anything - or of the heraldry which goes with the name, I believe a chritian name of Earnest was used a lot. None of my family have ever come across another Brownston. Help would be appreciated. Thanks.
