WEBBER - Abbotskerswell, Devon
- Abbotskerswell
My GGG-grandfather was Thomas WEBBER, born 1799 Abbotskerswell (or possibly Exeter). I have nothing at all on his family there. He was a ploughman or similar, and was sent to Sydney NSW Australia as a convict in 1822. Exeter is mentioned as his "native place" in only one document of his convict records; others say Abbotskerswell. He married (1)Mary OXLEY 1827 Parramatta;she died 1834;(2) Elizabeth (Jane?) SMITH (also a convict) 1835 Liverpool NSW. They had 8 children. Thomas died 1853 Queanbeyan; he had become Chief Constable there. Elizabeth died 1861 in Sydney. I have some of his convict records, also descendent info on most of their children including Maria Jane WEBBER (my GG-g'mother, who married Edwin LAND - also from Devon). Happy to swap this info; very interested in any other ancestral info, particularly parentage etc. Judy from Sydney, Australia.

What was her crime? I know that Thomas was transported for life for stealing a tea chest.

Thomas Patt/Jane Newcombe Descendents
- Alverdiscott
I have found that my gr. grandfather John Patt (son of Thomas & Jane Newcombe Patt) was born 1862 in Alverdiscott, Devon, UK. John Patt and his wife emigrated to New York in about 1891. I cannot find where John Patt married, whether it was in New York or in Devon, England. I have that John Patt married Emma Delve, daughter of George & Ann (Ridd) Delve of Barnstaple, Devon, UK. Is there anyone out there that can help me with this?
Also, when they emigrated to the United States, Emma Delve, my gr grandma, left behind 2 small children to be raised by her parents, George & Ann Delve. The children were Emma (b. 1883) and William(b. 1888) Delve. I cried when I read this from the back of an old picture of my great grandma Emma. I had already found Emma and William Delve living with George and Ann Ridd in Barnstaple in the 1891 UK census with their mother, Emma Delve, when my uncle sent me the picture of my great grandma (Emma Delve) with the information on the children handwritten on the back of it. Is there any way to find if William and Emma Delve married and had children of their own? I would love to contact them. Any help with this would be SO appreciated! Thank you.
Ruth, USA
