Burton-upon-Trent
- Stapenhill
Looking for information on Moses SIDDALLS, born circa 1817 in Burton-on-Trent to Hannah TOON and John SIDDALLS, they were married 14th January 1800 in B-on-T. Moses was a Journeyman Shoemaker, and married at least 3 times, first to Catherine COLLIER,Dec 1840 who died in childbirth ( their son John, died 6 months later), then he married my GGGrandmother Sarah PARKER, who died in 1858 in the Workhouse, from where she had married in 1848, then a Sarah Jane CAUSER in 1861. On the 1871 census he was a News Vender, and I would like to find out if that meant that he was selling newspapers on the street corner or was he selling them from a shop? Moses died in 1879 in the Workhouse. I think that both Sarah & Moses were probably in the WorkhouseInfirmary, but that might be wishful thinking! Any information on any of these names would be extremely welcome. I would like to know what they were like and more about them.

Featherstone Leftley
- Staveley
Bernard FEATHERSTONE and his wife Mary lived in Staveley from the early 1800's. Their daughter Catherine FEATHERSTONE married David LEFTLEY in Yorkshire in 1879, but he died in 1893 and Catherine returned home to Staveley, bringing their children Charles, Peter, Mary, John and George Leo with her. Charles John and George ( aka Leo) remained in the area all their life. Peter disappears after 1910. Mary disappears after 1891. I would love to hear from anyone who knows anything of them.
I believe Bernard and Mary also had a son Charles FEATHERSTONE. Any contact with his descendants also sought! :-)

HUTTON HEPPLEWHITE/GODFREY
- Staveley
Believe Jane Godfrey b 1850 (father - Richard Hepplewhite) had a brother William b 1851. William was my husband's grandfather and lived quite a colourful life! He married Mary Ellen Frith in 1871 and John Godfrey (Jane's husband?) was a witness. The Hepplewhites certainly enjoyed names. William's family with Ellen produced amongst others an Algernon Eustace Hepplewhite and a Richard Frith Hutton Hepplewhite. William also had a liason with another lady producing a further 9 children, some also with very flowery names. Would love to hear from anyone who has more information about William

The Young's of Foolow
- Stoney Middleton
I have just received the death certificate for William Young of Foolow born 1748. The memorial inscription must have been wrong or was wrongly transcribed as, according to the death certificate, he died on March 27th 1839 at Housley (near Stoney Middleton) aged 91 years. The cause of death is given as Decay of nature and the informant was Rebecca Turner,(his married daughter) occupier of Housley, near Stoney Middleton. The certificate is dated 1/6/1839 and is signed by James Chapman Registrar. Another mystery solved- now I have to try and find his birth- which I now suspect may not be in Derbyshire. The family rumour is that the Youngs of Foolow may have come from Scotland
I have no idea how to pursue that one.. any suggestion gratefully received.

OSBISTON and BRUNTE
- Sutton on the Hill
I am interested in anything to do with these two families in the Sutton area. In 1670 there was a dispute which went to chancery over a will of Thomas Osbaston. Two of his sons; Oliver and John (who married Deborah Brunte) argued over which will was the correct one. I've looked at the papers at Kew but they are very difficult to read. Anyone who knows more please contact me, as this may be my family.
Best Wishes,
barbara
