Francis SKERRITT b. Green Hillocks, Ripley 27 Apr 1851 & Married Hannah STORER of Butterley, Ripley 13 Sept 1871. --------- Francis preceded Hannah and their children to Staten Island, New York, USA. His exact arrival not yet found but he was residing on Staten Island at the time of the 1881 British census & sending money home to Hannah. --- Can anyone with access to passenger manifests of departures from Liverpool to the Port of New York City find his departure? Probable time frame for departure would have been Jan - Feb 1879 to just before April 1881 ------------- Francis had started out as a pattern maker at the Butterley Iron Works, apprenticing to Butterley Iron Works on 27 Apr 1866. Sometime between 1873 and 1875 switched careers from pattern maker to joiner and builder. Francis continued as a builder and contractor for the rest of his working life. He had his own business in Port Richmond, Staten Island, F.H. Skerritt Builders. ----------- Of Interest is the fact that one of the buildings that Francis and his company built during his career was the Temple Emanu-el Jewish synagogue in Port Richmond. On 2 August 2007, the Temple Emanu-el was placed on The National Register of Historic Places. ---------- In the Temple is a stained glass window listing all the principals involved in the design and building of the synagogue. Francis is listed as F.H. Skerritt, Builder.

Looking for Joseph Jones - Shirebrook
He would be my mother's grandfather, born circa 1889. Joseph was a miner who played a brilliant organ. Although married, he apparently had a many year affair with a local woman, which continued after his wife died. He had a daughter named Lily, an oldest son, Joseph, and another son, Fred. There were sisters, Elizabeth, Evelyn, Lois and Ivy. Information on the maternal side of my family is very, very scarce, and I would love to know more. Thanks.

Samuel Bradley married Sarah Ann Ashmore on 25 Nov 1898, in Shirland, looking for contact with anyone with links to these families in Shirland. These are my Great Grandparents and I've got their wedding cert - on which I discovered that Sam was a widow! but I've no idea who his first wife was, has anyone any idea? While browsing the free BMD I found a choice of wives for Sam in 1895 - Sam would have been 23....... Charlotte White or Jane Elizabeth Davis were both married on the same day as a Samuel Bradley in Chesterfield. Can anyone claim either of them to get them out of the running?

I am looking for information on Francis Sparrow b about 1770 in Blackwell he married Sarah Wrigley in Shirland on 17 Dec 1810 in presence of Isaac Sparrow and Thomas Hadfield. Sarah was born in Shirland in 1772. They lived in Shirland and my gg grandfather William was born there in 1813 followed by Elizabeth 1815 and Sarah 1817 posibly others. William married Jane eastwood and moved to Skegby area. Sarahs parents William Wrigley and Clarissa Wright were married in Shirland in 1786. Do you recognise any of these names?

In my tree I have Reuben Riggott born c1845 who married Harriett. Children born to them were Mary, Reuben, and Elizabeth. Reuben snr was a miner and barber. His daughter Mary married Samuel Renshaw Marriott whose parents were Thomas & Eliza Marriott. He was adopted by Thomas Renshaw as a child.
