William Abbott - Spondon
I am searching for info on William Abbott who was born 1784-1796 with 1795-6 the more likely. He was convicted in the Derby Quarter Sessions on 19/10/1819 of stealing two barn fowls, and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment and 7 years transportation to NSW. He was described as aged 23, late of Stanton-by-Dale, but his 'native place' was given as Staunton. On his death certificate in 1877 his birthplace is given as Notts. There are a several William Abbotts listed as butchers in Derbyshire, is it coincidence that 'my' William was also to become a butcher in NZ in later life?

Knowles family of Stanton in Peak - Stanton in Peak
My family lived in or around this village in the 18th century, where Youlgreave parish records show that the family existed more or less since records began.
Prior to living at Stanton and Stanton Hall, they lived nearby at Alport, and a number of family memorials still exist in Youlgreave churchyard.
If anyone else has a connection to this family, I would be glad to hear from them.
