Routledges in Hayton - Carlisle
Trying to trace back beyond John ROUTLEDGE and Jane HETHERINGTON m. 1818 in Hayton (by Brampton) - the family later seems to have moved nearer into the centre of Carlisle. Their son William ( bap.1826) is my G-G-G-Grandfather and had two children born in Gosport, one in Bermuda (he was in the Royal Artillery c.1861) and subsequent children born in Carlisle when he retired from the army and became a railway signalman. Hopeful this will tie-in with other families - have unbroken line to current date if anyone thinks this might help their research!

WALL - Carlisle
Seeking information on gg grandparents, William WALL and Agnes ?, who married before 1840. My g grandfather, Robert William WALL, was b 10 Feb 1840 at Carlisle. He married Mary NOBLE (bc 1839 at Carlisle - source 1881 census) sometime before 1865. Robert was a bricklayer (1881 census) and moved around. First child born St Bees, next two at Gateshead, Durham, then one at Frizington, and last two at Brampton. Mary died sometime between 1884 and 1887, when Robert migrated to Australia with the three eldest children. When he settled in Sydney, he went back (date unknown) for the rest of the family and a niece, Agnes LONGRIGG. Any information gratefully received.

I am looking for any information on an Alexander Brown hopefully prior to 1861. The information I have is that he was born in 1830 in Carlisle. He had been married to a Jane Brown, (maiden name unknown as yet) but by 1861 she does not seem to be on the scene. In the 1861 Census he is down as being employed as an engine driver and living at 1 Harringford Court, Botchergate, Carlisle with his three sons Alexander, David (who was my great grandfather), and Jacob. I would love to know my great great grandfather's parent's names and where they were from and Jane Brown's maiden name.
