Murray from Workington
- Workington
My Grandfather John Richard (Dick) Murray was brought up by relatives because, after the death of his mother, his father John Murray emigrated to Australia without him. Because of this we have very little information about his Grandparents. We believe, because of the proximity to Scotland and facial likeness to the portraits at Blair Atholl, that he descends from Scottish Murrays, but would appreciate any information about Murrays in the Workington, Cumbria area in the 19th Century. John Murray, Dick's father was born in the 1880's/1890's.

Irving Family
- Workington
My grandfather was John Edward Irving, youngest son of Lucy Simpson and John Irving.I suspect that Joseph Irving was my grandfather's uncle. My grandfather's family lived variously in Workington, Great Broughton ( place called Trough House), Little Broughton, etc. My grandfather married Annie Louisa Jackson of Eaglesfield at Lamplugh Church in 1915, and they emigrated to Canada (BC) in 1920. My mother is their younger daughter and the youngest of 7 children. I have a family tree of my grandfather and his siblings. They were, in order, Sally, Mary Ellen, Elizabeth (Betty), Joseph, Norman, Hannah (Nan), Esther(Ettie), John Edward (my grandfather, who died in Canada in 1968)and Gertrude (Tot). I know they were a musical family and keen church-goers. I also have the names of all of their children and it would be interesting to gather more info on succeeding generations to pass on to my mother (Audrey Irving-Thomas) and her brother Leslie Irving, as they are the last surviving of John Edward's seven children and would really like to know more. Thanks--Linda
