Murphy, Aspatria - Aspatria
My grandfather, John Robert Murphy was born in Aspatria around 1902. It is known that his sister married into the Cund family and moved to Leicestershire and the midlands prior to WW2. There is also a shipping connection out of Workington, and some (possible) shipbuilding connection in the west cumberland/solway region. I have tracked down Cunds/Murphys to the States and Australia, but would be interested to find out more local interest.

I am researching the Woods Family In cleator and Cleator moor. I start with Dennis Woods who was born in Ireland about 1812 and came to Cleator as an iron ore miner about 1851 with his wife Isabelle. I can trace his direct line directly to myself, but i do not have the branches of his sons and Daughters. I would love to trace them. they lived in Bigrigg for some time about 1900 to 1930. Luck family Blackwell? - Blackwell
Looking for any information re William Luck born c1785. In various census papers it says he is born in Blackwell. As there is a Blackwell near Darlington it has always been assumed that he came from there, however in the 1851 census he says he was born in Sunderland. We have established that there is a "Blackwell" in or near Sunderland so maybe that is where he came from. He married Mary Walker in Mansfield in 1805. They lived in 'the Boathouse'. His son Stephen married Jane Stamp in 1851. They were the parents of my gt grandmother Hannah Luck. Any information - especially where William and Mary came from gratefully received.

Desperately seeking info on Thomas Bowman (b c1815). Father John, married Elizabeth Stoddart in Bolton Parish in 1839. Had at least three children, Esther (1840), John (1842) and Jane (c1843). Have not been able to locate them on the 1851 census. Were living in Catlands Foot and Intack in Bolton Parish. Any help much appreciated.

We are looking for information about the following person: "George Rooke, an eminent Quaker minister of Ireland, son of Thomas, was born at Boltonwood (parish of Boulton) in Cumberland, England, in 1652. He lost his father when he was eleven years old, and his mother was left with several small children to support. At sixteen he was apprenticed to Thomas Drewry, a carpenter and joiner, one of the Society of Friends, and became a member of society. At about the age of twenty-five he appeared in the ministry and travelled much in that service. In 1686, he removed to Limerick, Ireland, and married Joan the daughter of John Cooke. In 1693, he settled in Dublin. His wife died there, 7 Mo. 17, 1737 and was buried in the Friends' burial ground on Cork Street, aged eighty four. He spent his declining years with his widowed daughter Rachel Carlton and her children, and died 12 Mo 7, 1742. --Rutty 334-7; Leadbeater, 212-226." Any help would be appreciated! Thank you, Jana

4 january 1845, thomas wilson, husbandman later master butcher, of stoneraise, married jane pearson of brackenthwaite. his father was probably matthew wilson (1791-1831). his mother was probably frances armstrong. they married in 1818. thomas and jane had at least one child, matthew wilson, born in brackenthwaite on 27 march 1845. matthew wilson II moved to London circa 1970 and joined royal horse guards. he married mary ann brown at windsor on 16 april 1879. their large family included my grandfather archibald wilson.

In the 1841 Census held at Keswick Library, Banks Bowe and his wife Sarah are living at Lanefoot. This couple are buried at Thornthwaite.In the the 1861 Census Henry and Ann Walker were at Lanefoot.( Ann's 1st Husband was Banks and Sarahs son Banks).In 1871 Ann was again a widow but still at Lanefoot. Anne and Henry also buried at Thornthwaite. Henry's sister Dinah appears to have married Banks and Sarah Bowes son Thomas. By 1881 Anne had died but her son George and his family were at Lanefoot.
